If you had to develop a nontraditional cardio plan, what would it be?

I am talking not just hitting the treadmill 5 times a week.

I am thinking these should be included somewhere:

biking
HIIT
jump rope
boxing (hitting heavy bag)
swimming

I don't know what the hell HIIT is but it sounds gay as hell anytime I start to read anything about it. Anytime I see it discussed on this board or any other I just toss my puter' out of my 5th story window and God help the homeless nutcases in the alley that day.

Looking at the other stuff, it's not disimilar from my own training in what you are *doing* (I do tris. Ironman Florida this November Baby!) and will probably take up MMA in September.

The problem with your plan is that I don't see the goal. If you just enjoy doing that stuff, then you don't need a plan. You feel like getting out your jump roap and doing some double dutch with the girls on the corner, do it. You feel like biking, bike.

Odds are you will get enough cardio exercise to be, well, better off than if you didn't get any cardio exercise.

lol - not sure if I would consider HIIT "gay", unless the only form of running you think is beneficial is long distance, moderately paced...

It wasn't meant to be my plan - just trying to have a little fun and throw out cardio ideas besides running to keep things interesting.

Oh.

HIIT. I was doing fast 400s and 200s today but I wouldn't call that HIIT. I don't even know what it is.

Lets use HR as the indicator.

Biking is fun. Swimming not really good cardio for developing capacity. Rollerblading is fun. Bag work is not so great cardio - hard to get high and stay high. If you think boxing is well, it's a little different when someone else in the ring is trying to take your head off and he take off yours, but most of the fatigue you feel there is anaerobic, not aerobic.

Jumping rope? Like walking fast.

What else.... dancing not bad.

Spanking? That would take a lot of rear ends.

Basketball and soccer are pretty good if you like chasing people down and punching them in the kidney.

Lets see. What else.... Playing Kazoo. You need to do it really loud though.

Anyway, for me, it's swiming, running, biking, lifting. Lifting ain't cardio, swimming is marginal.

Did I mention spanking? Yeah, I rock that too.
