He was not a popular person among the defense establishment...and it got him killed.
They wanted vietnam, Kennedy wanted out. They wanted war, he wanted peace...Kennedy before he was killed was working on his plan to get all the troops out of vietnam by the end of his term.
Less than 48 HOURS after he was killed, uber-scumbag Johnson REVERSED the order and essentially started the war...
What amuses me the most about this board is that people base their open-mindedness about corruption on party-lines. You've got guys who post every wackjob anti-clinton article from newsmax and believe every word of it, but scoff, excuse or ignore any corruption by republicans.
This is really a pitiful way to look at things. It's akin to the Nazis who were able to blame the Jews for all the problems in Germany and Europe, (and were able to come up with reasons!), while one of the real and biggest problems were the Nazis themselves.
It's the same with Democrats and Republicans. A very effective method of distracting the populace by playing one side against another. As old as history really.
It used to be you could blame the blacks, or the faggots, or the communists for all your woes in life... there is still some of that today, but the primary distractant is partisan.
I picture it like this; You have a crowd of people, some democrats, some republicans...they are all very upset at the state of things and are gathered in front of the ruling politicians, who are also democrats and republicans.
Both groups of politicians give speeches, each blaming the other for the ills of the country.
The populace gets so worked up that they basically start arguing amongst themselves, so busy trying to prove that their "group" is the right group, that they pay no attention to the politicians' actions...which are back to the same sleaze as before...as they stand amused watching over the squabbling sheep.
Psychology teaches us that if you place 2 sets of people randomely into different groups, they will eventually become "nationalistic" about their group; defend and promote that group even though there is no discernible difference between them.
And you can see this phenomenon clearly on this board. The republicans will blindly defend their party, and defer all blame to the democrats...even going so far as to say, "Well bush HAD to take away our civil liberties because CLINTON didn't do anything about Bin Laden." When Bush too had 8 months to kill Bin Laden with the GE/Seniors CIA assets in Afghanistan and did not do so either. And I'm not singling out the repubs, both sides are equally guilty.
The day when people stop looking at things as democrat and republican, and start looking at things as Politician, will be the day that we have a hope of becoming a republic once again.
Unfortunatley, that day will probably never come.
Let us hope though that one day the 2 parties are brought down like the treasonous entities they are and we have a multi-party system, so people will look at the politician, rather than the letter

After 9/11 which somehow slipped through the intelligence net, the CIA is back with huge funding; the defense budget in 1999 was around 200 billion. It surpassed 400 billion this year, and will continue to rise.
Before 9/11 the military was struggling against rumsfeld. Rumsfeld wanted a new streamlined military. Elements in the military wanted to keep the old Cold War heavy weapons like Carlyle's subsidiaries' Crusader.
Now after 9/11, the funding is so great they are doing both.
