if this is true, what image does china take from the olympic games?

China is ahead in the medal count and way ahead in gold.

They country is going through growing pains but it is just a bump in the road to a new empire. I just read GE just sold 3 billion dollars of alternative energy projects to the Chinese. They recognize their problems and they are fixing it. Just like the Japanese in the 1960's, they are going to alter that technology, make it better, and put GE out of business just like the Japs did to the US television, semiconductor, (and so on) industries.

ive heard that comparison before.

For consistency's sake yea, but then I'd change the rules to allow for younger athletes & drug use because I don't consider it any different to using fancy swim suits to improve your times.

if each swimmer can wear the same swim gear its not cheating. the playing field is leveled.

Exactly my argument for every nation to be allowed to use younger athletes & dope their teams, just level the playing field for all.

not even near the same, its not a logical argument. the swim outfits arent against the rules. drugs and underage athletes are. why not get rid of all rules then?

+1 on the doping opinion. Drug testing just gives countries willing to spend millions on how to beat the system an unfair advantage
Not into exploiting children for any reason. Unfortunately no matter what age restrictions they may impose AT the Olympics it won't stop China from loading 10 year olds with hormones so they are world class athletes when they come of age.
I think very little of the Chinese government. Worse than the cold war Soviets IMO...

So? Change the rules in the interests of creating a level playing field among competing nations. Other than being a rule, do you have any other reasons for disallowing younger athletes & doping?

its unethical. the doping thing, ive had this argument before - i agree they all do it. ive seen a track and field journal for a female sprinter a bunch of years ago and she was pretty geared up. but they all are anyway. none of them arent. the kids competing thing is clearly unethical. those age restrictions were put in to protect the athlete and i agree with that completely.

are their gymnasts underage? i bet more comes of this and soon.

a tourist is murdered.

the city is a polluted mess.

the games are empty.

does this set china and its communist regime back in the eyes of the world?
Why are Americans such whiners?
Oh, the referee are so unfair. Oh, the Chinese are cheating.
Even if you take all of their gymnastic medals away, they still have a shitload of medals.
They built such amazing stadium.
The most spectacular opening ceremony with 15000 performers.
When was the last time a country spent 47 billion dollars on lympics? What other country has that type of money?

Yea, it's unfortunate there are nations out there exploiting kids and turning them in to virtual slaves, while Western nations are happy to allow their younger athletes to voluntarily go as far as they wish with their parents go ahead, guidance etc.

I'll concede on the child athletes for reasons of possible exploitation, but as far as doping goes my views are the same as powerbuilder's; all you're doing is penalising nations that don't have an unlimited budget to allow their athletes' to pass drug screening tests.

I don't think there's anything unethical about medically supervised voluntary doping myself.
