if someone on steroids beats someone up...and its brought up in court...what happens?

well it sure mattered in the case against paul demayo, although he had been off steroids for 2-3 years, the prosecution painted him as a steroid driven crazed maniac, and on top of that he had no previous criminal background, rap sheet, or speeding ticket, and got sentenced for 2 years in prison for firing a gun into the air, and the prosecution solely got him convicted on past roid use.

temporary insanity goes a long way. there was a story on the news a few weeks back about a guy who got so drunk, he mistook these 2 people for his parents and killed them. he got off.

but, at least with most drugs, there is no conclusive evidence that roid rage even exists. based upon that i dont think it would be admissable in court.

My thoughts exactly

In order to use this as a defense you would need to prove that steriod use does lead directly to a state of mental "rage", this of course is tough to proove and would vary greatly depending upon the drug/drugs that were taken.

it is doubtful that the DA would bring up steriod use, and it cant really add to your charge of assualt.

It's already been done. There was a case way back in the 80's involving a Florida(?) cop that had shot someone, I don't remember the details, but basically the guy had pissed him off.
They used - "The roids did it" defense. He got convicted.

perhaps steroids are illegal because boneheads who cant control there temper use that as an excuse in the court room. i for one will allways look forward to the legalization of AS(like it will ever happen). But as long as you can kill someone and get of on insanity or whatever because you were juicing at the time......

There are a lot of ways a creative lawyer could use steroid use in a case. The previous replies have all been directed toward a criminal case. If the person who was assaulted was to file a civil suit, then I see ways an attorney could use it. But, that would most likely require proof more than a couple of guys on the stand who say the defendant juices. Let's say for instance, if the defendant had illegal/unprescribed steroids on him at the time of arrest, then I see it as evidence against him in a civil trial. There are all kinds of ways it could be bad. I think we can all agree that the least amount of people that know, the better off you are. And NEVER do a drug test, lincoln is lucky the judge didn't call his bluff.

Please, don't use "roid rage" as a defense. That is why the US is so fucked up about the juice as it is.
