If girlfriend tested negative for HIV.....

My girlfriend just tested negative for HIV, which is obviously good. Weve been screwing without protection for 6 months. My question is what are the chances that I have HIV since Ive been screwing her for that long without protection and she tested negative? I know that doesnt automatically mean I dont have it but should I get tested just in case? hope this makes sense lol

:lmao:

Wow.

you make more threads with HIV in the title then anyone else here

if it hasnt shown up for her in 6 months or more, she and you prolly don't have it... but there issssss, a smallll chance that it can stay dormant for a long time... You're prolly good- chill, get tested if it'll put you at ease- good luck

Well, a person has to be totally safe for about 6 months and then get tested to get the green light to be cleared of HIV. 98% people of the people build up the antibodies for HIV after 3 months. Most tests test for the antibodies and the not the virus itself. You can have some sort of RCV DNA test or something which actually tests for the viral load but it's expensive.

If you are telling me that you both only slept with each other for the past 6 months without protection and she came up negative, then most likely you are both negative.

Im 23.. just had my first STD tests done last week.. I had no clue they swab the inside of your penis. That part wasn't too pleasant but the negative result made it all better. :)

youre good to go bro. dont get stressed
Its all the bitches before her that I screwed that Im stressing about. So I figured if this most recent one was negative than that was just as good as myself being negative, since Ive been barebacking her since october.

man just get tested. trust me youll be ok
Yeah I agree. I would just get tested. You most likely have nothing to worry about but you are obviously a little worried.. save some stress and go get the test.:)

Not if it you have them with the right person. No one understands how much joy they bring until you have one - assuming the man to be a responsible loving father.

Fuck that!
Better you then me...

I have done some research and this is what I have gathered.

There have been studies of couples (I think it was in SF, but I'm not sure) where one person was HIV positive and the other negative. Usually, HIV was NOT transmitted after even a YEAR of unprotected sex - assuming neither partner had any other STDs that would hasten transmission.

That, and antibodies can take up to 3 months to appear (but about half of newly infected people get an initial flu-like syndrome).

This means that the fact that your girlfriend tested negative is not a reliable indicator at all. But it also means you should not be too terrible concerned about HIV. Just get tested to make yourself feel better. Scared of a needle?

Thats standard medical practice here in the US to test for STDs, how do they get the culture of the bacteria inside the urethra in Australia? And dont say urine tests, thats not the answer.

:rainbow: First off allow me to say ..Glad to hear your girl is not infected .. ;) Now, in one of your post you stated you were not worried about her, but that it was all the other girls you have been with in the past. You have just answered your own question. You need to stop worring about if you have it and get to a doctor and get tested yourself. A person should never EVER rely on another person test. I did that very same thing. My very first sexual incounter was with someone who had tested negative. Never used a condom. Been living with AIDS now over 13 years. However, mine was an extreme case. Just use your own common sense and get tested... :)
You should never mess around with this infection or any others. They all impact your life greatly. :)
