Ideas for eating Oatmeal?

Snarling Force

Active member
I'm eating a lot of Oatmeal these days but so far its just water and the oats and that gets really boring really fast. Any healthy ideas for spicing or flavoring oatmeal up? Thanks in advance!!

Stevia, cinnamon, mashed banana, chopped apple, berries, honey, even dried fruit if you are not concerned about the excess sugars...

Cook in vanilla extract or peppermint oil, half milk and half water (use low-carb milk if you are watching your BF and if you have it in your area).

Do a google search for a thing called 'DaVinci syrups'... No food will ever be bland. :)

Dried cranberries & 1/2 of a granny smith apple. Throw in some cinnamon. Cook it al together & you're set. I also cook it with my eggs and vegetables. It looks ugly that way, but tastes good with some cholula.

i eat a hearty bowl every day, abd put in maybe 2 teaspoons of sugar. is that really going to kill me?

Not sure whether this is a rhetorical question or not (?), but if you are trying to lose BF, you should be eliminating sucrose from your diet. If you are trying to gain mass and not worried about BF, it shouldn't be too much of a problem, especially at breakfast when your muscles are more sentive to insulin and you are less likely to store fat.

splenda ? It's pretty good on lots of things- I think jencats suggests it on things alot, and that's where I heard about it

anyone tried ronnie colemans way? thats oatmeal, 1 cheese slice, and cooked egg whites. I cant bring myself to do it.

Mick

I put bacon in mine. hmmmmmmmmm!

not so good if you are trying to cut out fats but great if you are a hardgainer like me

Pancakes -- 1 egg yolk + 4 whites, 1/4-1/3 cup dry oats, vanilla extract, flax oil or meal -- blend together in a blender & cook in a small pan like pancakes..... YUM!!

I eat oatmeal every day. Mostly sweetened with all the ingredients mentioned above, but my fav is a bit of honey, a small handful of raisins and a bit of cinnamon.

This is how I make my oatmeal every morning:

3/4 cups old-fashioned oats - microwave with cold water 2 mins
add in
1 scoop whey protein powder - microwave another 2 mins
add in
1 raw egg - mix, microwave one last minute. Also sweetener (stevia, splenda), 2 packets.

top with nonfat no sugar yogurt, any flavor.

It's excellent.

My favorite is the chocolate PP with strawberry cheesecake yogurt combo.

200G low fat/low carb yogurt - peach mango mmmmm (5.6g carbs)
3 scoops of whey
1.5 cups of oatmeal

Eat cold. saves all day w/o refridgeration

It's like candy without the sugar.

i've been having a huge bowl of oatmeal with just some raisins every morning the past 5 months or so but was really starting to get sick of it lately, got some new ideas in this thread to try out should be good.

Mmmmm Oatmeal is my favorite meal of the day!

Mine is:

I boil 300 ml water (double recommended amount), then mix in 1/3 cup Oatmeal, cook for 3-5 minutes, take off heat.

Then I add in 1 scoop Chocolate Protein Powder, 1/2 tsp Natural PB, and 1/2 tsp Splenda and Cinnamon.

Try it guys, it's soo yummy ! !!

Kinda off topic here, but does anyone else rememer Oatmeal Swirlers. It was instant oatmeal and they gave you a fruit syrup packet to "swirl" on your oatmeal.

you can get reg. oats from any grocery store. They usually come in a cardboard tube. Look for the words "Old Fashioned".

Found this in this forum and it's not bad.
1% milk, All Natural Peanut Butter, uncooked oatmeal, flax oil and chocolate whey isolate...throw it in the vita mix and drink....it's filling too.

Dave

1/4c rolled oats (dry) mixed w/ 2Tbsp natural PB........is kindofa pasty mess, but tastes pretty good......course it could b my sense of taste isn't the strongest at that time of the day :-P Somethin 2 try

I like to cook my oatmeal & add it to my Pro powder in the blender in the AM. Makes for a good, solid, quick b-fast...

Cinnamon & Splenda

Chopped Walnuts + Minced Apple + Raisins + Splenda + a touch of cream

thisis how i prepare also \
i ahve recently tried mixing alittle apple butter and some cinnamon power it was very good
i have used apple sauce too just not as sweet as apple butter

I hit the same wall with oatmeal and decided to add some of the dried fruits to it such as the dried cranberries or dried mangos, etc, etc. Make sure you get the sugar free kind though. It really made a big difference in the taste, especially the dried mangos, that tasted GREAT!

One word of warning, do not ,I repeat DO NOT use prunes dried or otherwise. I was not prepared for the aftermath of that much frigin fiber. You know, it's funny how all these horrible things happen to me when I try new things. Maybe I should fear change. LOL Oh well, at least I have some funny stories.....at least I think they are funny. :P

You didn't know about prunes/dried plums reputation?? You got a road block -- they'll take care of it....

another fav of mine is 1 cup oats and a little less water than usual ... mix with cinnamon and splenda, nuke on high for 2 mins.. then stir in 6 or more egg whites... nuke for another min and a half, stir then nuke for 2 more... this makes a huge thick bowl of porridge... top it with shaved almonds and sf syrup... mmmm Love this stuff.

Yes I did but I am gonna have to claim it was low blood sugar.....I wasn't thinking clearly. ;)

Am I off the hook on that one?

Lately I've been adding the raw oats to my protein shake. and just chuggin. Honestly it tastes good. Kinda like wet chocolatey cereal.

I put a cup into a blender with carb countdown milk, ANPB, banana, whey protein, and some ice. Blend it up to make a pretty tasty shake and it's quick and easy, I use it for meal #2

The best way to eat it I have found is to cook it then add my all the whey protein pwder 2 servings per cup of oatmeal then mix it all up I can eat it hot like that for breakfeast or eat it cold as a awesome tasting snack later in the day and its the perfect food. What can be better for you than oatmeal with whey protein? Not to mention tastes incredible hot or cold, great on the go snack too.

I mix scrambled egg whites in with cook oats and add some cinamon - trust me guys I have fallen in love with this....
Alternatively add oats, egg whites, cinamon, raisens into a bowl, mix and wack in a pan and cook as a pancake - best idea i have come across and tastes splender :p
