I used the wedge with the sledge but IMO the maul combined everything. You get a tough knot then I would switch to the wedge. I've always been a big guy so I can deliver some wood pwnage with a maul.

The threat I felt of disappointing them was probably the best discipline tool the had.

My son is exactly like that, I've spanked him twice in his life and he's 10 now. He just HATES the thought that I may be dissapointed in him, almost to the point that it concerns me. That kid (only child) gets more hugs and kisses and I love you's in one day than I got in a lifetime. I'm not real sure where it comes from.
