You're a black man with a college degree (gpa of 4.0) and have a very good job at a legal firm. You're very intelligent and in fact show promise to be one of the best lawyers in the firm. Since your very first day on the job everyone treats you like shit because they figure that your just some stupid "nigger" that got his job just by being black.

You live in New York city and even though you wear a suit you can never get a cab.

The police stop you every now and then because you drive a BMW and are seen driving through a rich neighborhood (they think you stole the car)

(hey, they have to know we are doing something out there). I have heard the great Words " YOU ONLY STOPPED ME BECAUSE I AM BLACK". Well I invite all that believe this statement, to come do a ridealong and see if you can tell what a drivers race is as they drive past you at 70 plus!I sure as the hell cant. I work from midnight to 800 am.

The police do not always stop minorities just "because" and yes, sometimes that argument is over used.

But, if you are telling me that police officers NEVER stop someone because of their race, then my friend, you are full of shit. I've been in EMS and had to clean up some of the messes of police work and I know a few police officers and they agree with this as well.

I find "A" hard to believe. Why the hell would an employer ever tell an applicant something like that? Unless a "friend" who works at the company told you that and unless he/she is in the HR department then how can you prove that was the reason?

That sounds just like, "they didn't hire me because I'm black". So, if this is true, then it should also apply that blacks are not hired in favor of whites as well, right?

Personally I've tested for many fire departments several times and always finished in the top percentage. I never got in because of politics. It totally sucks. Then agaib, they were choosing between about 1,000 people so they can literally pick and choose what they want.

Third, the reason the Federal governemnt had to create AffAct was because of the fact that many businesses would not hire minorities unless they were forced to.

Fourth, yes I don't live in an all-white town, but I do live in a upper-middle class area where one of my black neighbors is harassed all the time by the cops and he looks nothing like a "gangster".

The truth of the matter is that we don't live under the SCRUTINY of being African American in this country. We aren't watched when we walk into Department stores, We aren't passed by when trying to catch a cab, nor are we denied many advanced employment opportunities because we are not part of the good ol' white boys club.

All of this foolish talk about "REVERSE DISCRIMINATION" is nothing but idle chatter about us whites feeling insecure that finally we will have to compete with African Americans. Quotas and Set Asides allow African Americans opportunities in typically all white industries----such as the construction industry where because of historical and present discrimination the doors in that industry would never have swung open, "but for" affirmative action programs.

You see, now whites will have to compete with African-Americans on a level playing field. I'm not afraid to compete------but clearly some of you are. As the great Reverand Martin Luther King once so grandfully yelled out----"THE TIME IS ALWAYS RIGHT TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT." -----Gentleman, the time is now right to join the playing field where all men are truly created equal......

It's a getto? Then it's no shock to see a shitbox in that kind of an area and yeah, some whites probably live there too, so unless there was some suspicious behaviour I would take a mental note and drive on by.

Your 3 options are not the only options.

What I meant by "cleaning up messes" is that I have as an previous EMS provider, witnessed police beating the shit out of minority suspects for no apparent reason. We tended their injuries and took them to the hospital afterwards. In one particular situation we were treating a beating victim and during which time an officer called him a "nigger" and triggered the patient. After the patient was knocked unconscious I was advised by my supervisor to just "drop it". I filed a complaint but nothing ever happened.

This isn't bullshit either. So if you really are a cop then you know that this shit really goes down. Any supposed cop knows that some bad shit does go down on the streets.
 
What part of Oregon? The reason I ask, is that since you can't spell correctly this suggests you are from a rural area. If you are from a rural area then most likely you are not experienced with living with minorities and enduring the experiences "urban life".

We all know that a large part of the black population lives in the state of Oregon.

As a "supposed cop"(??), I have seen some things that should not have happened.
However, you say that the guy was beat for no apparent reason. I ask you this? What type of training do you have that allows you to judge a situation. I mean Police officers and Citizens will judge that same encounter two different ways, most every time.
E.g. "THEY SHOULD HAVE SHOT HIM IN THE LEG" OR " IT WAS ONLY A KNIFE AND HE WAS 15' AWAY FROM THAT COP".
Now, to shoot someone in the leg in a critical incident would be very difficult if not impossable. Also, If a suspect is standing withinin 19' of a cop that has a holstered gun. That suspect will 99% of the time be able to stab,cut the officer before he is able to draw his weapon. This is a fact.

I mean if that situation fails to draw your attention as a Police officer. Then you should quit and go work at a gym.

If a recall correctly the top pay for New Orleans pd is like $30,000 a year? At that rate of pay you cant expect to get very many good guys/girls.
 
Well, in my short 26 year life I've personally met about 15 truly racist people. People who will automatically hate someone based on no other reason then their skin color. Out of those 15 or so people at least a dozen of them were black.

I DO NOT KNOW YOU BUT I have been pulled over too many times for "no reason at all" or the classic "your turn signal doesn't work, or your taillight is out" so I wait till he is finished and ask if I can check it myself.I exit the car having turned the signal on and to my suprise it works just fine!When you show them it works they tell you they can pull you over whenever they want to but YOU WOULD TELL A LITTLE KID WHAT THEY DID WRONG SO HOW COME YOU CANNOT TELL A LAW ABIDING ADULT WHAT IS THEY SUPPOSEDLY DID WRONG??I do not judge all cops by what one or two assholes did to me and I in turn do not want to be judged for what a few of my black brothers have done! When there are enough officers present to detain a suspect with handcuffs, etc. then there is no reason to beat that suspect repeatable. Police can use the excuse that the individual was resisting. Let me ask you a question, if four cops were beating you repeatedly and no matter you said they kept beating you, would you fight back???

The incidence of the officer instigating my patient to get into a physical confrontation with him was complete and utter racism. My patient was being treated by EMS and out of no where one of the officers calls him a nigger. It was something of the effect of "what's a matter, nigger?" and of course the person flipped out, stood up, got into the face of the officer and then proceeded to get his ass kicked for about 10 minutes.

Not quite to shit but things have changed alot (Mandela is no longer in power) the AffAct ruling in SA means that for any job there is an order of acceptance Black male, Black female, Asian male, Asian female (western asia) then White male, White female. So in SA I bet alot of whites wish they were black just for one week then they could get a job just by turning up.

47 states use the quota system in law school admissions, they all want to diversify the law profession by giving advantages to minorities. So forget the 4.0 gpa, thats what the white guy would need, all the black guy would need is a 3.5.

heres a little story--, one of my dads friends graduated from UT law school with honors. Several of his peers graduated from TSU law school (Texas Southern). The average gpa to get into UT is 3.6, the average for TSU is 2.4--(by far the lowest in Texas), by the way, not that it matters, but TSU is 97% black.

The guy who graduated from UT back in the 80's with high honors was passed up for many job opportunites. His peers that graduated from TSU were hired right away because there were laws that gave them advantages. The TSU grads kept getting unqualified promotions, while the UT grad was left in the dust.

In the late 80's the UT grad filed a reverse discrimination lawsuit and won.

Too many black people have attitude. I didn't hurt your people. I am sorry for the treatment the black man and other races experienced in the past... I cannot change it...

But don't go around thinking it's easy for the white guy... it isn't... I applied to about 20 before I got a job following university... and I have black friends that were employed by Andersen, PwC and other posh places.... but I always congratulated them and felt good for them... my chance came a bit later.......

racism fucks me off... and nowadays it is the black man that is the biggest racist of all....

Your first post you said you wear a suit, have a great job with a law firm and drive a Beemer.....right? Why would you want to work for a fire department? Sounds like you got it going on already. I don't klnow how much firemen make where you are but my buddy is pretty muched tapped at 40K and thats putting in overtime.

First off I did see the just imagine.........I thought you were the person I was suppossed to be imaging myself being...... I didn't read Psychos response after the first line so in turn I didn't read your response. By the way who says working for a law firm equals lawyer?

So why are you playing these fucking moronic games anyway if you aren't black? Do you want to be black? Hasn't this dead horse issue been over and done about 50 fucking times in the last couple of months. Pick another issue to sound off about that you probably aren't going to be able to change?

this is sort of on the topic...

well i have my job due to a program for aboriginal post-secondary students and i think it's a wonderful thing because it helps support the largest growing youth segment of the population in my province who are attending university. in the last ten years, thankfully, programs directed at aboriginal students have led to the increase in numbers of aboriginal post-secondary education attendance. i'm glad these types of programs are in place.
 
Smallmovesal, thank you very much. This is exactly why government agencies step in with circumstances such as this. I assume you're aboriginal and if so then what do you think your chances would have been without that program? :)
 
honestly, not as good. there are other programs for students in general in the government but my aboriginal status has been quite helpful in that sense.

there is really a huge need to try to repair the damage that the government has inflicted upon aboriginal communities... it's really encouraging to now see stats that show aboriginal people are becoming more and more educated since these programs directed towards education and subsequent employment have been put in place.
 
The opportunites presented to the "white" segment of western societies will always be better than those offered for minorities. You don't understand or respect that since you are obviously not a minority.

Aboriginal peoples should be given a hell of a lot more than they have been. You do know what aboriginal means, correct?

That used to be her ancestors land before westerners came in and physically took it over from them.

I'd like to see how you would feel if you and your whole entire family-tree grew up as second class citizens. Then you would be speaking a different story.
 
Amen to the ADD post. My parents tell me I have it because I have trouble concentrating when reading. 99% OF MY FRIENDS HAVE TROUBLE CONCENTRATING ALSO. I take Adderall to combat this, but I do not believe I have ADD, if I do, then EVERYONE DOES.

I supply my friends with a constant supply of adderall to help them with their "ADD". My mom thinks I'm in denial.

hyperactivity
trouble concentrating
disorganization

I'm the exact opposite of hyper, ask anyone who has met me, but I have still been classified, by doctors, as having ADD.

I would guess that if the entire population got tested for ADD, 50% would have it. Its bullshit, and over diagnosed.
 
i think the point they are making is u dont realise that u are getting special treatment because u are white, for u it is the norm. a black person might get the same treatment as u, he may not if he doesnt he might have been discriminated upon by race.
 
and i'll add that my grandmother lived in denial of her culture because she was afraid of what people would do if they found out - which is terribly sad.
 
I see some valid points being made here on both sides but I have to wonder why so many people here are so quick to say more blacks are more racist against whites than whites against blacks.First, I do not know the class of people you have for friends, but I have friends who are all educated and motivated and we sure as hell do not sit around and yell about the whiteman .I have not time for that and we all are about making more money and starting businesses of our own and investing,family life, ALL POSITIVE STUFF! No time for blaming the white man for my so called troubles, I am going to retire at 45 or 50 with a fat nest egg and living well with no worries in the world.We motivate each other and keep new ideas flowing and INVEST OUR MONEY! If some of you,white or black just invested instead of buying new rims for your cars and suv's and stopped all the impulse buying you would be shocked at what you would accomplish in a short time!!
 
I think everyone should be held accountable to the same standards. That would eliminate any confusion in job placement, school etc etc. Anybody that thinks differently is just looking for reasons to blame another race for their own troubles. The more equal we treat each other, the more equality there is in our society, :fro:
 
but who's to say the way mainstream society lives is actually suitable to the lifestyle another culture is not used to...? i don't think it's fair that we should hold up mainstream society as a standard for people whose ways of life we have interrupted and screwed up by basically the mainstream. i think there needs to be some sort of means of finding a common ground respectfully but i also think that in order to do that you have to get to a place where that can be done while maintaining the cultural well-being of the people outside of the mainstream.

It works the 2 ways: Black people will say its racism, white peeps will say its affirmative action... Its the same thing most of the times: an excuse!

Look at the Syllicon Valley... From what i read most of the workers there (or at least a very big percentage) are chinese and indians (from India)... I don´t see afirmative action or racism there...
 
To All Venters

Those of you offering limited experiences/situations with other races.....I don't see where it qualifies anyone to judge an entire race.....the only way to see the life of another race is to view it in their shoes....completely. I lived in Mallorca (Spain for those who haven't traveled) for about 2 years.....and traveled throughout Europe...which doesn't qualify me as walking in their shoes....but it will open your eyes....racism is a global entity....but in the US....it is a powerful subcurrent that encourages hateful, uninformed, shortsighted, mean...hateful ways.....uses up a lot of energy..negative energy...but then again what doesn't in this country.....media....FBI, spies, presidents, Mike Tyson....Lyle Alzado....OJ, Rodney King.....Terry Nichols...Timothy Mcveigh....Dahmer.....presidential ballots.....corruption.....etc.....these are the daily headlines.....this country shapes the way we think everyday....with no emphasis on correcting wrongs......the Indians.....years of oppressions..... and they were here first.....where is the justification for them.......and their situation....where is the effort to actually live better.....and see why we can't get along....such a shame......what is the standard solution for those who don't want things to get better? Get the hell out! Or that is just the way it is....I ain't gonna change...the hell with them....or it will never change.....the hell with them.....everyone should just look in the mirror and see if they are actually doing the right thing to make things better..... :good:

I wonder when I, as a white male get pulled over by the police is it because of racism as well. I feel anytime anything out of the ordinary happens to me it has to be because of racism. Everyone on the face of the earth has prejudices in them. If a black man goes into a affluent white neighborhood he stands out and everyone there is a bigot by his standards because no black people live there. Last week the usa today had a headline about high income blacks moving to the burbs more frequently and most of the live in predominantly black if not all black subdivisions. the article states they want to live with their own kind. (What kind is that I wonder Human) I understand this because they share their lives with people whom they have more things in common. I do not understand how a militant black person cannot see that white people are no different.If I were black and wanted unity I would refer to myself as American not African-American. Everyone has the right to live their life as they see fit but, the term does help divide us as far as race goes. I do not know the age of you people who have so much anger in you but, I hope at some point in your life you find peace and realize we all have the same wants needs and desires in our lives. We just have different means of trying to obtain them. Peace
