Watched "Deadliest Catch" on Discovery Channel just now -- recorded it the other nite. I can't believe what's involved with catching crab -- the conditions, the work, etc....Out in freezing conditions, they have to climb up into the cages to hang the bait....

They said that last year 45 boats went down & in the show, for the season, 251 boats went out -- so that's an 18% loss!! That's alot, IMO!!

Someone worked hella hard for me to eat this crab.

Damn -- it's 8:15pm Thurs nite here....

Did you have breakfast yet??

Oh yeah, I've been awake for a few hours. My wife is in St Louis, so I'm an one man band changing diapers, brushing teeth, fixing ponytails, getting kids to school. You name it.

Is your wife going to move over, since you'll be there a few years??

How do the kids like school in Japan??

I'm working, can't you tell?

You're fired!!!! Tiny.

<stands up>

I would like to thank all the little people for catching this crab I'm about to eat,

<sits down>

Jen, she lives here, she is just in St Louis temporarily. My daughter is in Kindergarten here, but she goes to a Dept of Defense school.

Powerslave,
Don't tell my boss, bro. I'll give you a dollar.

We once caught crabs in a sail boat.
They are slow and pretty easy to catch. You just hang a rope with bait. No hook.
When you feel weight or tug of rope, you slowly bring it up. Near the surface you catch it in a basket.
The one I caught seemed heavy. When I caught it, it turned out to be a pair that was making love.
I felt really sorry for them. But we ate them anyway. I guess they died happy.

that doesn't sound right
way too high,though I do know that ocean fishing is the most hazardous traditional profession

I saw that show too! I actually am thinking about doing that for a few months when I get out of college to pay off loans. I think it could be a cool experience. If ya dont die.

Probably that hard working people make some money that way. No wonder crabs are expensive. At least good quality stone crabs. But we don't need to wait too long. Sooner or later, nasty illegal immigrants will do the job. They will do it for minimum wage, half to live, half to send it back to his fucked up country, stealing our money and messing up the economy. The ole good American crab farmers, will be unemployed or will keep doing the job for 7 bucks/hr.
I'd not be surprised if somebody here tell me they are already doing the job.
