It's parents like that that should be lined up and shot... I mean... They should be taken into a room and given a few good whacks in the head with a dumbbell.. maybe that would knock some sense into them...
Props to you for taking the time to help the kid and then defending him when she came in to complain.
People like you that take the time make changes you will never know about like in a year from now when he is feeling 100 times better about himself because he always heard your advice in the back of his head and followed it behind his mom's back.....

Immortal, I salute you. I work at Musclemag, similar to GNC, and its people like you (and me, since Im the same way) that GNC and the like should kill for. You take your time and go out of your way for some kid that you dont even know. You try to help the kid change around his life. Had he followed your plan and stuck to it, it could have been the best fucking thing he ever did. He should walk in there and kiss your feet. You should get employee of the month and a goddamn raise. You re one of the good ones. who the fuck is that woman? why the fuck should she think that you'd want to only take his money? its not like you get paid on commission! she has a goddamn degree in nutrition? then why is her son such a fat fuck? dumb bitch. if i was you and she was a man, that asshole would have walked out of the place without their two front teeth. I hope the fat fuck stays fat, stays depressed, and commits suicide and then his mom

Yea - I gotta agree with O'Stan. Ask the lady how her kid got the way he is...
The thing w/ trying to educate people on health, fitness & supplements is that they do get bombed with many different & often conflicting comments from many different people. Combine that with the mis-education of today's public by today's supplement marketing machine and you have a totally confused person. Props to you for taking the time to talk to the kid. The only other thing that would be good would be to point out some places where the kid can go to educate himself so he can educate himself and evaluate supps, diet, exercise for himself.
"Self-empowerment" is the key. Then if he really does care and he's not just bitching about it, he will pursue the channels he becomes aware of and will make better decisions in the future. E.g. join a gym, go to the local university and check out their nutrition / health sciences resources, etc.
Personally I've been lifting since I was 16, but being a girl before girls were in gyms (pre-Jane Fonda) I really didnt' know where to find that sort of info. For a diet, my mom helped me get into one of these diet programs like Jenny Craig - but all of that is such complete bullshit. I even joined an on-site weight watchers group because it was available thru my job - after 1 meeting it occurred to me that I'd be better off spending that hour in the gym instead of listening to a bunch of fat women bitching about not being able to eat junk food.

I worked at GNC a long time ago. I even managed one for a while.
Hell, I wanted those PM's so I sold everything I could that everyone of my relatives were using to get astonishing results.
I trained with a maniac saleperson who was the only GNC employee ever to max out 2 credit cards for almost $800.00 and the store sold no clothes or weights.
On a customer like that though, I might have been inclined to ask her if her current physical condition and that of her son were a
reflection of her nutritional knowledge.
