I want a happy-go-lucky dog. What kind of breed should I look for?

I guess I didn't make it clear. I'm going to get a pound dog, which means a mix. I don't think I'll find many of the exotic breeds.

U will be suprised at what breeds are in a pound. People get good animals that THEY can not take care of and pawn them off.

Whatever you do don't get a lab. They are knuckleheads!! The best dog I have ever owned is my Beagle. She is 9 years old and still healthy. Beagles are very friendly with children, family, and other dogs. She will bark/howl when someone comes to the door but other then that she is very gentile. She was the easiest dog I have ever trained. I let her roam my house all day when I'm at work and she just sleeps. She doesn't get into anything or go to the bathroom in the house. She is just a very content dog all around. If I am tired she sleeps, if I watch TV she lays at my feet, or if I want to for a run she goes with me. The dog is always up for what I want to do. She is never hyper or annoying like the labs and many other dogs I have owned. If you have any questions let me know and I will do the best to help you out.. Later,
Justin

you've got to think outside the box - don't just be a follower - be a leader...
get a bald eagle.
or a tortoise.
or a giraffe.

Hmmm, if you're getting a pound dog, then I suggest simply going to see what they have. I volunteer at the Humane Society sometimes. THere are always rambunctious little dogs. I found a Terrier mix puppy that almost came home with me one day. :)

boxers don't drool.. they've bred that out of them..

and they don't get that big.. i mean... yeah.. some do.. but for the most part.. they'll never be over 70lbs..

dude.. do you have kids though? that's the one thing that'd scare me about getting a dog from a pound.. because you have no idea how it will react to certain situations.. you don't know how it was raised.. etc etc...

i personally would never get a dog from a pound..

There are also rescue societies for a lot of the breeds, if you wanted a specific breed, and you're still taking a dog that needs a home.

The pound or humane society is a good way to go too.

douschounds (sp?) are cool dogs - some are nuts, some aren't... all of the wirehaired and all of the red head ones that I've ever "known" (maybe 5 of each) were totally insane - but the traditional short hair dark coat ones are very sweet and nice dogs and great for apts b/c they can get all their exercise in small walks or even aroudn the apt and they are too small to leave too massive a dump.

either that or a bull mastiff. ;)

Our friends have a Mastiff/Great Dane mix. That bastard is fucking huge! He weighs 229 lbs and stays inside their house. It looks like a fucking horse. Gentle as a lamb too! My friend says when he takes him out in the morning so he can do his business...he pisses for 5 minutes and needs a shovel to scoop up his mountain of shit. He's a great dog but has a hard time manuevering inside the house. He is also lazy as hell. When that thing decides to sit or lay down..you better not be in his area because he will just plop down on you. Hard to get him off of you if he decides to do that!

We have two daschunds. They are great! One is smart and the other is pretty dumb.
