I want a happy-go-lucky dog. What kind of breed should I look for?

dude.. do you have kids though? that's the one thing that'd scare me about getting a dog from a pound.. because you have no idea how it will react to certain situations.. you don't know how it was raised.. etc etc...

i personally would never get a dog from a pound..

I don't have kids but if you figure a dog lives 10-15 years, then kids will definetly come along at some point.

And I wouldn't get a dog over 2 or 3 months since it's going to be around kids. That way I do know how it's been raised. I've read some good stuff on how to evaluate how a dog will behave later in life with a few simple tests. I just can't remember what they are. I'll have to do my research when it's closer to time.

my friend used to have some evil little terrier thing that we called Yoda... b/c it looked like Yoda.
then they got this HUGE golden retriever from the pound.
the two dogs didn't get along and we'd be like, where the hell is Yoda? and then be like, hey Ralph, where's Yoda? (ralph was the big dog) and he'd look at us, and then look around, and then get up and go in the other room... and Yoda would come scurrying out from under him.
he would just plop down on the smaller dog while it was sleeping...
that dog was awesome

boston terrier.. yeah, i know its smaller than what you listed, but they are still great dogs.. they are smart, friendly, fun, and they absolutely adore children.

We have a Golden Retriever that is about 12---she has been a great dog and I would highly recommend them for what you are looking for.

We also have a black lab that is about 2 1/2. She is much more high strung than the retriever ever was but still a good dog.

I have a Dalmatian. He's great I love the bastard. He's been a little sick lately :( I don't know what's wrong with him. He's better today, buuuut I'm still taking him to the vet. The only problem with him, is that he's VERY protective of his owner. It was pretty funny, there was this chick over here a while ago, a few months after I got him and he sat in front of me and just gave her the most dirty look. He wouldn't let her walk near me lol. It was funny as hell. As far as intelligence goes, he's smart as all hell. He learned how to sit, lay down, roll over, all in about 2 days flat. It was so easy, just have to train them early. He knows, get over here, go over there, go to the corner (when he's bad), and...what else what else...oh yeah he loves to run like a mo fo. VERY PLAYFUL!!! loves new toys, the funny thing about this guy is that he's the only dog I know that doesn't really like to play with the owner, he wants you to throw the toy and then he goes somewhere else in the house and then plays. He's dependant, not too bad, but he misses me like crazy when I'm gone. I'll be gone for 10 min and he's crying :( He's stop crying as much, so he's adjusting pretty good to me being gone. ok I think that's enough about Jake. lol

im gonna have to say that in a few years i plan on getting a border collie. they are really cool dogs, so perhaps consider that

Hell Yeah!! I have two of those (male & female). They're the best dogs I've ever had. I would keep them away from small children though if you have two because they like to fuck alot. :)
