I wanna quit my job...

That said, if you want Goldman Sachs to come visit YOU and YOUR school and ask if YOU want and interview, then you'd best get comfortable with the idea of a good ole' boy network.
Ya, Goldman folks are legit.

A few people I know who work there have said the interview process is crazy.

if you want to do something more analytical get a PhD.

Salary is 100K-200K per year (depending on the institution)

Job is very easy if you get a 2 x 2 (teach only to classes each semester).

Plus you get summers off.

Publishing is a bitch though.
and you can bang some hot young students!!!

Lotsa unemployed MBA's and MBA's working on spreadsheets out there.

MBA is great if your big plan on life is being a super office monkey with a fancy office and bmw -- and praying to god the company doesn't have layoffs cuz you know you'll be the first fat to be trimmed.

The way the firm does business in general is crazy. I've done work for their Mezzanine fund. The guy who runs it is totally cool, 38, lives on the upper east side of NYC, not a flashy apartment or anything and his wife is a sweetheart. He did Penn State undergrad (which surprised me) and NYU for his MBA. But the different parts of Goldman don't share information so much as they compete with one another. And they don't e-mail you shit either. We were hired to mark a their portfolio to market but we practically had to suck 5 guys off to let them take the deal documents out of Goldman for 2 weeks. Boy was my jaw sore! ;)

That is the good thing about my current gig. One of the top producers in the state. Job security unless I shoot a client.

Excuse you, razorburn, but not all of us get off on playing with cameras and consorting with the vapid and self-absorbed in Hollyweird. I do investment analysis. It's what I enjoy. It just so happens that the best places to do that are 1.) consulting firms, 2.) investment banks, and 3.) private equity/hedge funds. Thus, I am likely to be employed in a corporate setting where they pay me in a fungible currency, as opposed to, say, guitars, which is what you are purportedly paid in. So, sit back in your Naugahyde chair and repeat the following mantra: "There are people in this world who are different from me, and that's ok." If it sinks in, you won't be one of those narrow minded Hollyweird types anymore.

And incidentally, I've worked on a motion picture financing deal before and might I just say that you are all not only liars, you're bad at both lying and contract negotiations.

I know that from experience.

I know I could stay within the company and do what I want to do (as my company does pretty much everything) but Im not sure what opportunities usually arise in my area.

Most of them, naturally, are in NY.

I wonder if you'll have the same lust after you have kids and they're older? I know that I didn't.
