I wanna quit my job...

Army Vet said:
definitely do it. It is great for promotions and leads to higher salaries and IMO the executive ones are very easy to obtain.
I am sure I will, I'm in middle management now and solidly entrenched in the management track. my company will pay for school and there are so good executive MBAs I can complete close to home.

What about getting an MBA from one of those online schools?

Credibility all over the place.

Hence my point. Don't get a PhD. Get the right PhD.

Very true.

At my university they list all of the professors and their salaries. I bust it out in class to motivate students. I started with the English, history and arts departments and the starting pay for finance and accounting (and physics) professors was higher than the highest salary in the English, history and arts sections.

I also learned the top paid professor in the university was in physics. Second was finance and he was tied with an international strategic management professor.

I think the name of school means more than how you get the degreed. What i mean is an exec mba, even though you get it on the weekends, is still great for your career potential as long as it comes from a school with a half decent name. But a shitty school, say, University of Phoenix, doesn't get you much, even if you go full time and get a tradtional degree.

I don't think many reputable schools offer degrees online only.

Indeed. I was just joshing.

I could easily pay $100 and get an MBA before bedtime if I wanted to.

Most employers and the general consensus in academia is that online degrees are trash.

The names of the schools do matter for some people. Recognize when you attend any specific school you are also buying into the social network it entails. Ever notice the majority of the past few presidents attended Ivy Leagues schools? Person A knows Person B and gets Person C hooked up because they all did their MBA at Harvard.

This is not to say that an MBA from a tier 2 or 3 program is not valuable - it is very valuable. In some environments though it will not carry as much weight but in most it will.

My personal beliefs directed me away from the tier 1 programs. I do not like the "good old boy" network and my personal belief is that it doesn't matter where you get your education, what matters is what you get out of it. The purpose of an MBA is to learn executive management and that can be done in any decent program.

That said, if you want Goldman Sachs to come visit YOU at YOUR school and ask if YOU want an interview, then you'd best get comfortable with the idea of a good ole' boy network.

I don't like the good ole boy network, but I'm not against playing the right part to get ahead in business.

It doesn't suck. Trust me.
