Oh yeah :( and not in the good way...

So with this whole fucking build credit thing being SO freaking impossible I finally got a company to not flatly say no to a CC request... however they requested a copy of last year's tax return... to which I went hmmm well I've never declared taxes because I never lived here as an adult... so I go to my local IRS office and no one in the office has traiing on citizens living abroad paying taxes, they told me to call the 1800 number and ask for a specialist... lady told me that I will probably have to file and may get either a credit or may have to pay.... fuck.... so uncool I have to file if I never lived here as an adult.... I hope I dont get too screwed... I'm so scared of owing a lot for not filing, I never made that much (under $900 a month) and I was a damn student.... shit....

honey you're fine you don't legally have to file unless you make enough and you don't - for 2009 you had to make at least $9,350

This cannot be true. We passed credit card reform a while back.

your allowances plus exemptions would be more than your income

I have no idea what that means :(

I called the citizen's abroad expert today, in 2008 I made about $10800 so I will have to file according to the IRS... I have no idea how to file, lady told me to go to my local office and they will help me.... I told her out of those $900 I made a month almost $500 went monthly to my college education, she told me to mention it but says that education abroad may not count, just US tuition, she told me to file 1040EZ and that the people at IRS will help me fill it and file it free.... should I do it with them or should I get an accountant?

its a government conspiracy. if you're 30 and move to the US and become a citizen. we now want you to pay back-taxes for the 30 years you weren't a citizen :) welcome to the land of opportunity. i'm sure it doesn't work that way but it sure does seem like it hearing about people becoming citizens.

i'm guessing a fucked up system is why most people give up with becoming a citizen and just live here on the sneaks. seems like it's one process after the other and each step becomes a waiting game. or, a "oops you did this that and other but, we also needed you to do this too"

Dude I am a citizen... I was born and raised here but then my parents decided to move to CR...

It doesn't make sense that you would pay US tax for years you did not live there. No taxation without representation!
