I suck at HDTV

Madd Hatter

I'd love to have a big screen HDTV, though I know nothing about them. I imagine if I go into Best Buy knowing nothing I'm gonna get bent over pretty good?

I'm currently thinking this model looks good: http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?b=0&e=11209566&m=1&cat=24&scat=25

It has a good digital comb filter, and that's about the only option where I know what's good. No matter what TV I buy, I'd have to go buy a separate tuner for the HDTV right? Is that even worth it? I watching a 27" Magnavox now and I'm betting anything's gonna seem sweet compared to that.

This one doesn't have any A/V outputs, that won't really matter will it? I can use an audio output to hook it to my stereo, don't know what else I'd want to do with it. ...Probably have to get a new DVD player to take the most advantage of it huh? I have one of the first players Zenith ever made, the first one that was $200.

Anyway, I'm rambling. Does that TV up there look good, or do I need to look for something else?

the best hd's out there are the hitachi's. they all come hd ready and depending on your equipment you may not need the converter. for ex. if you have a dish or cable and get a hd box then it will plug in with no extra box needed for you tv. if you use a t.v. antenna you will then need a 480i or 1080i box needed for use. those go for big bucks just for what they do.

I always like TVs HD or otherwise with tube over projection. They just have better pictures IMO. Of course you aren't gonna see a 56" tube out there. Maybe 40" but that's about it.

I agree although projection screens are pretty good now.

I have this model http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webap...d=11253&modelNo=PT-53WX52&surfModel=PT-53WX52

It's really nice and the picture is the best I've seen for a projection tv, but it's still not as good as a CRT tube tv.

I service em.........RCA imo are the best...the entire light box pulls out..so you leave the bulky cabinet at home. HD is the way to go.....go with projection...plasmas are nice but a stationary image if left in one spot too long will leave a burn.

My phillips gets HDTV without an extra box. I have digital cable and the digital cable company supplies 1 box for the HDTV and the regular cable. I am pretty sure that any HDTV ready TV would have the same set up. At least the newer models.

The Mistubishi 65' projection HDTV totally kicks ass!!!!!

I agree, they have the best pic.....the point i was making was service ability....Hence RCA. but i can tell you side by side compareson if adjusted correctly(both adj) the mits is a tad better. Hell if they weren't viewed back to back tho i doubt you prob wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Satellite boxes are not high definition...only digital...there are some out there but they are pricy!!!
