I had a "now former" friend that had a good career started in commercial art. He designed billboard ads for a living. His IQ is probably slightly below average but he has a talent for art. He got a graphic design degree and worked 6 years with the same company. Then one day he just decided to quit his job with no plans on what to do afterwards. He moved back home and spent 4 years doing absolutely nothing. He lived off from his savings account. Then when the money ran low he applied for disability payments. There's not a damned thing preventing him from working except his laziness. That's basically what social security told him. Then he hired a lawyer and goes to court and suddenlly he is disabled even though he can ride a Harley and hike uphill trails. I have no idea how these lawyers get this garbage to pass.

My high school sweety had a father that was on disability. Except his disability was caused by stepping on a land mine in Vietnam and losing both legs. I can't tolerate seeing an able bodied person collect disability. That money is there for the people that stepped on landmines. Hell, I say let's give those who are disabled for combat injuries two pay checks per month.

that said, right minded people don't just quit their jobs out of no where and blow through their savings. just because he can ride a bike and hike doesn't mean he's not mentally disabled. you even said he had a low IQ. unless you know what's going on in his head i'd say you need to mind your business. most people on disability get shit for money, so i fail to see the incentive in leaving a good paying job so you can sit on your ass and scrape by.

I did not say he had a low IQ. I said it was a bit below average. The guy did earn a college degree and built up a decent rep in his business. I do know one of the psychiatrists that he tried to get to "certify" his disability. She told me that he is nowhere close to being clinically disabled and she could risk her license by certifying him. She even said getting a job would be the most beneficial treatment that he could receive. However she said that there are doctors around that will certify him if he shops around for doctors. I've known this guy since we were 12. I'm 37 now. All of his life he has been given everything and has gone out of his way to avoid work. He owns a house but he didn't pay for it. It was given to him.

Below average is low, and IQ doesn't effectively reflect intelligence, scoring high on IQ tests reflects knowledge in certain areas combined with certain subconsciously trained problem solving skills that pertain well to taking IQ tests, which happen to have some general carry over in certain aspects of navigating life.
I know of people who would prob score high in IQ tests but also lack some simple common sense.

Do you actually know for sure that he is blatantly claiming purely because he's a lazy ass ? maybe he has mental problems, depression or something. I know people who are on disability for smoking weed or drinking alcohol. They do blag it but even so. They're definitely not living a good life. I don't care how many lazy asses claim disability you're still better off working than they are on benefits. Providing your not working for an asshole and if you are then that's your bad. All to easy to look down on people in poverty when things don't run as we would like. What about the evil system that put's these people there in the first place.
Just some thoughts for the 1's that are genuine and deserving.

I have a medical discharge from the Marines for bad ankles. I rate disability through the VA and I am sure SS. But I look at it this way, I can still run, lift, and performed other various jobs in the past that required me to be physically fit. (some here may remember one of my past jobs) anyway, I refuse to file for disability from the VA or for any other benifits I may be entitled to. I don't rate them and I would be taking money away from someone who truely needs it, like a Vet who got injured in a war. Plus, SS was not intended for use as a disability benifit. It was for helping people be able to live off their measly pensions (if they even had one) one of the greatest liberal failures to date. Its broke, it is used for everything but what it was intended for and then you get ass wipes milking the system because they are lazy fucks.

No vendetta but I wasted many nights as the host of his pity parties. He does have some loose screws but he is still capable of some type of work. He even said once that if he could have his old job back that he would take it. It doesn't sound like he even believes that he is disabled.
