That's quite a contrast from my prediction. LOL I predict that you will meet and believe in Jesus before you take your last breath, even if it's on your death bed. Just a prediction.

i hope i do find Jesus.

he owes me $20

He gave it to me. Blew out of the wind and landed at my feet. No wait, that was 10$, he must have gave the other 10$ to someone else. Become one of his followers and you will see things that you've never seen before. He will take you to higher and higher glory.

How do you figure this?

As you continue to be odedient to God by trusting in him, he will reward your faith. It is written and so it is. I'm still working on it. To let go and have 100% trust is not easy for all of us. May take a little time as you grow in your faith.

I doubt it will happen.

I really hope it doesn't.

I was actually talking to my GF about it last night. How fuckin weird would it be for me to somehow "find god" and one day look back on TODAY and think that I was so misguided and just "lost."

Let me give you some background so you can see where I am coming from.

I was raised in a strict Christian home. My parents were both Baptist, born again Christians. They found it in their mid 20s. My mom grew up methodist, went to church with her mom, but her dad never went. My dad was not religious.

So like most people who find a religion LATER in life, my parents were over the top into it.

They took it seriously and were very particular about the specifics of their doctrine. They left their church of a few years because they got a woman pastor, and my parents felt that women should not be allowed to speak in church.

My parents also did not allow us to listen to secular music, watch movies that were rated higher then PG, we could not miss church, not even on wednesday nights (I got cut from my baseball team because I missed every wednesday evening practice).

So anyway, I believed all this shit my parents were telling me. That we are all sinners, that Jesus was gods son and he was sacrificed to "PAY" for our sins.

Why on earth our sins would have to be paid for is beyond me. And it always struck me as funny that "sin" is different to everyone. For some people, they consider drinking alcohol, smoking a ciggarette, or masturbating a sin. Some people considering thinking an "unpure" thought a sin.

So I guess Jesus paid for all this.

But I have told this story before, but I will tell it again. I was about 12 years old. I had already accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and savior and had asked him to save me and I wanted to spend all of eternity worshipping him.

So then at 12 I am with a neighbor kid and we are karate kicking a tree.. well its just me... and the kid goes "I can't play karate" I said why? He said "because I am a jehovas witness" I thought that was odd, so I go home and ask my parents about that. They say that Jehovas Witnesses are a cult and bad and don't believe in the true jesus. So of course I go back to the kid the next day and tell him all this and we are no longer allowed to hang out cuz his parents are pissed and they come over and talk to my parents and they get into a huge shouting match.

So as I got older, I realized that there were MANY cultures out there, and nearly every culture came with its own religion. I had friends who were jewish, mormon, buddist, muslim, and people who were just not religious at all and didn't care!

I realized that I only considered myself a Christian because it was what my parents had told me was right. And my parents are not perfect people, what are the odds that I just got THAT lucky and was born into a family that happened to believe in the one true religion?

I believe that its just by chance I was born into my family, just like some kids get lucky and are born into wealth, others poverty.

So LATER in life I do my homework, I study Christianity as well as some other religions. I find out how the Bible was put together. I find out how the Catholic church started, and then how protestantism spun off from there. I read about Constantine, King James, Martin Luther, Calvin, and many others. I see that there is a lot of violence in the faith. I see that the faith is ALWAYS having to go back and correct itself because its views are almost always in direct conflict with science and as we learn more about our world we have to update our beliefs from a religious standpoint.

I realize that EVERY culture has a religion, that is it something that people need and crave, its really something that is evolutionary.

A Volcano erupts and ruins a town, so what do the leaders do? They assume its GOD mad at them and throw their most valuable possesions (including VIRGIN WOMEN) into the volcano!

When famine hits, or a tsunami, or an earthquake.. that is of course GOD made at them!

Also people want to feel a purpose in their lives, they need something to cling to when everything else in their life goes to shit. This is how many people come to be born again.

And then there is the question of where did we come from, and what happens when we die... Religions SOLVE that for everyone as well!

On top of that Religions have strict moral codes, which generally leads to stable families, less crime, etc. So i am not saying it is without merit.

I am saying that it is simple all predicated and ASSUMTIONS and things that have been carefully crafted and contrived over thousands of years.

And most of all I am saying, it is FLAWED.

Think about it, how could the human mind, as limited and frail as it is, comprehend the idea of an all knowing omnipotent being???? Its just not possible.. and all these attempts to do so are just blasphemy.

The bible was written by MEN.

The kid just told you he was a JW. He didn't want to karate kick the tree because he didn't see much of a future in it. He knew the tree always won.

So how do your parents deal with your rejection of their belief system?

denial mostly.

Its not talked about too much, they never have a response for anything I had to say except for "its faith."

I think deep down they feel I am just straying from the fold for a while but will return stronger then ever, like the prodigle (sp) son.

I bet they pray for me daily.

you had a similar upbring to myself and I also went to christian school for 9 years.. mean while back at home my father beat the crap out of me. But remember the Bible says to honor your father and mother. And we were told to NEVER talk about what happened at home.. This fucked me up for years!

you nailed it on the head and I dont think I could have said it better myself...

at the end of the day to me it seems that all the religions believe in a higher power, and basically want you to be a good person to your fellow man...

I believe in the higher power and I treat people the way I wish to be treated. I have my faults like everyone but I try to be mindfull of them... So what if I don't go to a church every sunday or claim to be part of a certain religion .I dont think that makes me less spirtual or that I would be rejected at heaven's door.

One more thing I think many people hide behind there religion!!

Oh yeah i forgot to add, I went to a private christian school until 7th grade when I gto kicked out for fighting (it was intentional on my part).

The higher power thing, I just don't know, I am not going to "believe" in anything I don't understand, that to me just doesn't make ANY sense.

I do believe in being good to other people, to increasing other's happiness in life as well as my own.

I personally believe people use their religion as a crutch. To give them a sense of purpose and self worth.

Sorry bro, not gonna happen.

I actually have a feeling I know what will happen.

You will stay gung ho on this new religious kick of yours for a few year, buts then things will start to soften, you will find that your truth spirituality and faith is really your own, and not what you are being force fed by your church and people around you. You will realize that the people telling you what is true and pure are really morally bankrupt themselves and this will shatter your faith. You will then withdraw from organized religion and seek to find peace and harmony within yourself.

this inner peace and harmony is REALLY TRULY what you seek. You think you will get it through Christ, it hasn't happened yet, but you still hold hope or "faith" but as this erodes you eyes will open and you will become cognizant of the world around you, and realize that the make belief reality you created for yourself through the church was nothing but a house of cards.

how exactly did he tell you this? in a dream? during prayer? was it audible? was it just thoughts in your head?
