You should already up the weight if you can do 10. Going higher than 10 and you're no longer activating as many of the fast twitch fibers as you'd want.

As long as he gets some exercise in for those, he should be fine.

Esp at his age.

How often is he benching?
 
Also try alternating between DB bench and barbell bench each workout. that has halped me in my path. I'm currently cracking 315 x 10 and also doing the 140 dbs x 10-12.
