I used to ask myself that all the time in my late teens/twenties. I've come to the conclusion that you should just enjoy life as much as you can. Do what makes you happy. I see people die almost daily. And let me tell you, life is way too short to be worrying about the little stuff.
 
All in all, it's what you make of it, and this includes but is not limited to:

making yourself
making friends
making out
making fuck (Swiped from Clerks)
making love
making sense of things
making money
making food
making poopee
making fun
making muscle
making threads

the list goes on...

Life is what you make out of it. How I see it is this...think of it like a blank canvas, you have the opportunity to paint it - throw colors and mix it with your imagination and what you have there is essentially a piece of work akin to the process of life.
You shape and define what life is going to be for you not the other way round Pammy.

Anyway, am I the only one that finds the name "Pamela" really sexy?
 
Life is about enjoying living. If you've drifted from that then you've gone off track.

That doesn't mean partying and humping all day but, rather, getting yourself that warm fuzzy feeling of a day well spent or a job well done. Making an effort to catch a sunrise or to explore something new. Giving yourself a challenge and then achieving your goals knowing that you're a more advanced being than you were before. Finding satisfaction in the things around you or changing the things which are wrong. Finally finding someone to share everything with so you can say "We did this".
 
What most people need to learn in life is how to love people and use things instead of using people and loving things.
 
Life is about being born, work, relax, exercise, learn, enjoy what you have learnt in a responsible manner respectful to yourself, others, animals and this wonderful planet/universe of ours. Then communicate what you have learnt to others in a way which will only be beneficial to the next generation and everything else around you.

Believe in a higher power and IT will help you during your journey by giving you health and happiness. Then say goodbye to this earth and let your soul slip away peacefully because you have achieved your earthly goals to the best of your abilities.




Don't forget to drink plenty of water in the mean time. :)
 
What brought me to this question was..

I have a neighbor that just turned 94. And I'm sort of looking after him. My other neighbor
that lives next door to him. Her Mom died. So she had to go away for a few days.

It's just so confusing to me why we have to grow old and hardly get around. Can't hardly hear.
Sleeps most of the time.
And a couple of weeks ago they couldn't get him awake. They called the ambulance and they took him to the hospital.. He was just asleep!!!

Why??

I work in the Long Term Care industry and understand your question "Why" about getting old. I look around each day when I enter a facility and wonder, "Will I end up like this? Will I be like some of these people who have no one who comes and sees them, will I have family who steals my money and can't wait for me to die so they can sell or take all that I have?" Then there are those I see whose family is with them, comforting and caring for them...there are also those who wheel up and down the halls with smiles on their faces holding dolls or teddy bears - oblivious to what is really happening in the world."

I only know that each day I try to live my life by one adage - Wake up with a smile on my face and go to sleep each night with the comfort in knowing that I did smile that morning and was happy to be alive, coherent, healthy and will continue to do so until such time as I am wheeling around, holding onto some doll or teddy bear...oblivious to anything except my own happy thoughts. (Or at least I hope :))

That's reminded me of a time my father took me to an old-folks home (as we used to call them). I was ten at the time and for years afterwards I'd get an image of that place along with the thought that my parents would one day be like that and it used to rip me apart. I've had two relatives go through long lingering illnesses that they didn't recover from and I don't believe there's any sense to be had from it. Maybe there's an existance after death, maybe there's reincarnation and maybe there's nothing. We find out when we die, or not, as the case may be.

That was the source of my earlier reply. Live your life such that you never resent yourself and strive for ongoing and long-term well-being since the journey might be all you really have.

Life is about your spirit ( soul) spiritualy evolving to the next plain. It's sad that so many people focus just on themselves and enjoyment of life. Sure life is to be enjoyed, but the point of life is to leave our session having evolved spiritually which we may do thru good deeds and richeasneus. Having left the world possitive energy and a continuance( children) is also a big part of it. It's about God ( energy) and God in us ALL. Once we stop focusing on the distractions and see what is realy important will enable us to enter "live" in the spiritual realm. Think about the time you have a close call with life, what realy becomes important. Anyone who has gone thru illnes can tell you. In short life is about love. Love of others, love of God ( the great creator) and most importantly love of yourself, for untill you love yourself you can love no other.

this life is but a lesson, there is no life after death b/c if there was then there'd be no death logically. There is no death, once you complete this level you break the membrane and move to the next state.
This lesson is about learning to do the little things that add up in life. A smile, a hug, a card, a caring moment, a kind word.
All positive karma,
Negative karma that detracts from that total would be a frown, bitching someone out, making life unpleasant for someone, creating discontent rather than working to fine contentment.
Souls are doomed to repeat this process for an eternity in many lives until they find 'zen', true enlightenment. Then Nirvana.

So, life is about accumulating karma, not this fake green stuff, but stopping to smell the scent of an unusual flower. Enjoying a fresh cherry, being happy and seeing a new view
