I am exhausted and sleepy ALL THE TIME. I can't snap out of it, and no amount of sleep helps. I'm having a hard time getting things done. I can't gather the energy and am having a hard time focusing or thinking.

Is there anything natural and healthy I could do to combat this. I can't take anything b/c I'm pregnant.

have you considered b-12 injections?

well, since you both mentioned b-12, maybe I will ask my doc for some.

Vit b complex 50 mgs, Ester-c, you can try some pre-natal vitamins.
You need to just eat tons of clean food girl. Forget the Wendy's burgers, and you can also go to the gym

Yea defidently talk it over with your doc first, especially if your go the injection route.

Yea, I was going to say it sounds diet related.

I don't really eat poorly, but I don't eat like I'm training or anything. For example, today I had a bowl of cereal and a banana, a turkey sandwich, and a soup and salad for dinner. I am feeling very full very quickly when I eat, but I can't stay awake. I feel RUN DOWN. Oh yeah, I drank a glass of orange juice while I was trying to concentrate today to see if a blood sugar spike would help even for a little bit and it didn't.

A doc will only inject you with b12 if your blood shows a low level of b. Go the dry vitamin route. Dont do 100 mgs while preggies cause it may make u nauseous

Okay, thanks girly.

You need to be injected with a 6-8 inch chocolate hot dog :p

STFU and get in bed.

Well, peeps, I have to do something. I have been making lots of little errors in my work because of missing things while proofreading. Now, I'm playing catch up. I better get with it, as a matter of fact.

Go see your baby's doctor. They might be able to help you out. Or, do you really trust your life with a bunch of fucks on the Interweb?

If so, then try zebra cum. It's a cure all.

I remember feeling this way about a year ago and the minute I took in more protein and water I started feeling a lot better. Not sure if that helps. I felt the exact same way, though.

go get yourself a pregnancy/breastfeeding drug book. theyre free or very cheap at pharmacies. asking advice on the net during pregnancy is, um, whats the word...sheesh cant think of it...tip of my tongue...coming...hhmmmm...STUPID!

ahem.

first look at the basics. diet, and sleep.

in regards to diet, look at how many carbs and how much protein/fat youre getting per serve, and at what time of day. low GI carbs increase blood glucose and make you feel more energetic. high GI carbs make you feel awesome for about 15 minutes and then your ass crashes. high fat/protein meals (especially large ones) will open blood vessels in teh gut, diverting a lot of blood/resources there, plus giving you a big insulin hit, and your energy tends to plummet and you rest your eyes while you watch tv

so check it out and see what the story is. not only do you need to think about meal timing and relative macronutrient proportions, look at total cals.

after that, make sure youre sleeping well - check out your sleep environment: are your sheets clean and comfy? are you used to the bed? are all the lights off? (including LED lights on alarm clocks/stereos) any loud noises at night that wake you? (cell phones all turned off? sleeping pills in the dogs bowl so that theyre all KO? windows shut to keep out road noise?) do you prepare for sleep properly? (reading a book/soft lights/soft music/meditation/shower) are you exercising, and therefore tired enough for good sleep?

if none of that works, consider cocaine

thatll be five bucks thanks :)

got it.

I'm going to try b-12, more protein, naps with kitties, chocolate hotdogs, and zebra stuff. ;-)

Seriously though, I think some of you guys gave some good advice that I will try. I'm somewhat desperate to stay awake. I can't even watch a tv show or a movie without falling asleep and drooling all over the place

You should continue training and keep your diet clean. It will help

As many have said - I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the fact that your body is going through rapid changes - crazy hormones, etc. I'd talk to your Doctor if it's really that bad. :)

Thank you GD! I sleep like a ROCK at night and for like 9 or 10 hours, since I have been prego. I would probably sleep all damn day, but my little dog wakes me up in the morning around 9 am to go for his morning walk. I'm working from home so I can do my work whenever I like.

I have also checked on IVillage's list of safe meds etc before taking anything. So far, I have only taken tylenol and claritin and my prenatal vitamins. I'm trying to be ULTRA careful not to take anything harmful, although I have been getting some caffeine from diet sodas. I know I should cut those out.

Even right after pretty well balanced meals, I stil am always sleepy. No matter if I eat a big meal, small meal, high GI carbs, low GI carbs, the feeling that I am right on the verge of sleep never goes away.

Maybe this is just a symptom of pregnancy, but it gets pretty debilitating.

i'm a dood. . .but i'm also a father of three. . .the symptoms your describing will go away sometime during your third trimester, when the "nesting" phase begins. . .then you won't be able to sleep. . .take advantage of this sleepy time. . .and sleep. . .a lot. . .that's what your body needs. . .

Oh okay. I just am falling asleep while typing my work. Reading title examinations, deeds, mortgages, liens, etc. is making my EYES CROSS. SLEEPY.

I'm sure the bulk of what you are experiencing is just your body having to fuel for two people, but I'd start w/ basics and look at what you are eating. That list of food you posted didn't look like all that much. You may be running on empty and just getting lethargic from lack of fuel -- suggest you put your current diet in a food counts program like www.fitday.com so you KNOW what you are eating. We spend all day preaching that you are literally what you eat on the womens / training / diet board. So its the simplest thing to check first. If you don't fuel your body for your goals, you won't achieve your goals. Simple as that. At least run the numbers so you know what you are eating. :)

okay, thank you sassy. I will try that.

I used to know this, but I have forgotten. Say someone wants to split 40/30/30 or whatever. Is that percentage by grams or by calories?

I seem to be gaining pretty well. I'm showing, and I am only 17 weeks.

"You have given out too much Karma in the last 24 hours, try again later."

Thanks everyone. I'm going to bed now. Iwill have to hit you all with k later. I'm all out of k for the day.

it comes with the territory :whatever: you'll get used to working with one eye open. . .my wife did. . .shit. . .she was carrying twins and her little 105lb ass worked, running a large facility for a fortune 50 company, right up to the day before she was due. . .this phase will pass. . .don't take anything to help keep you alert other than maybe a cup of coffee. . .you should be allowed one per day anyway. . .get up and walk around a little when you feel extremely tired. . .and try to go for a long, medium-pace walk each day. . .listen to your body. . .it knows what it's doing. . .women's bodies been doing this shit for. . .well. . .like. . .a hell of a long time. . .

You need to get rid of your stress.
