I need advice on interview attire

resonator

New member
I have an interview tomorrow and would like some advice on what to wear. The job I'm interviewing for is a multimedia/designer/modeler position with a government contracting firm. I'll be meeting with two lead designers and the company boss. Any suggestions on what to wear to look decent? Right now I have a pair of black pinstripe pants, blue button up, no sport coat, no tie with black square toed Kenneth Cole shoes. Should I go out and buy a tie and a different shirt/pants? I need some input, any would be appreciated.

yes do get a tie.

i think everyone should go for an interview in a more conservative attire, but however you dont wanna look like everyone else. I tend to stick with the general white based shirts (i like those with nice stripes) and a matching tie so i stand out from the rest and look appropriate at the same time.

cut your hair, cut/groom your nails, shave clean

ur good to go =)

good luck.

I'd suggest a suit unless they tell you not to. You can ask them what their typical attire is for the office and try to match that. Definitey wear a tie unless they SPECIFICALLY say casual

Darling,

This may have come too late for your interview, but believe me: if you plan on being successful in life, you have to own one pin stripe suit, white shirt and a tie.

Good luck in your career, Darling!

I agree, you should own at least one good suit, a pair of black, brown or cordovan conservative shoes (wingtips are acceptable), and a decent shirt and tie. Fresh haircut, clean, trimmed fingernails, and a clean shave or very neatly trimmed beard. Little to no jewelry, a watch and wedding band is acceptable.

This is, of course, if your position is in a business setting. For the trades, a decent pair of slacks (wear a decent belt), plain tie shoes, and a single-colored matching polo are acceptable.

Yes definitely wear a tie and a jacket would also be a good idea. I used to manage a GNC here in Calgary and I wouldn't hire any guys who didn't wear ties to their interview. It's a sign of respect for me and for themselves and it showed me that even though they were applying for a retail job that they took it seriously. One time when I was desperate I broke my rule and sure enough the guy didn't work out. It's funny they don't seem to teach kids in school nowadays about interview attire. I once had a kid show up wearing dirty sweatpants a Calgary Flames sweatshirt who looked like he had never brushed his teeth in his entire life. he was sick and proceeded to cough on me without covering his mouth!!! Needless to say that interview took all of 90 seconds.

Good Luck with the interview. Let us know what you wore and how it went.
