I just tore my shirt sleave...!

Kids pretty often do that thing of, "Hey, mister, make a muscle." when they see my arms. It doesn't bother me - and typically I just shoot them the biceps gun shot.

I was in the grocery store tonight and two kids behind me were with their mom. They were both about 5 years old. The check out guy ringing up the groceries was my friend Joe. He trains seriously too and we've worked out together. We are both big guys so the kids started asking us about having big muscles, things like that. Then of course they did the famous "Make a muscle!" thing with lots of giggles.

Joe shot a gun. He is in his 12th week of a cycle. His arms are getting huge. The kids oooooohhhhhd and aaaaawwwwwd. Then they turned to me. I'm a bit bigger than Joe. They wanted me to do it too.

No problem.

I pulled up my shirt sleave... and started to flex. My arms have been getting even bigger than ever before. 5x5 has been adding some new size over the past 9 months. I felt my arms stretching against the fabric of the shirt... then pulling tight... then I heard it starting to rip.

Basically everybody heard my shirt rip as I flexed my biceps and it grew out of it like the incredible Hulk.

I figured what the hell... push it all the way. The sleave split up the side.

The kids of course went totally ape shit. :) They started going on and on about how my arms ripped right through my shirt sleaves.

It actually is impressive to me to see that my arms have gotten bigger than ever before. Needsize's 5x5 and other things I've learned here have really helped my training... and this has led to steady gains and improvements all year.

So I would like at this time to extend a very special thanks to Needsize, Spatts, C-ditty, B-fold and all the rest of you for helping me do the most fun thing in the world - you've helped me to impress the hell out of a couple 5 year olds. :lmao:

Sofa, thats awesome!

Do you have any before pics of when you started lifting, before 5x5 and after using the program for 9 months (recent ones)? If you don't want to post, you can email them to me at [email protected]

I bet you made those kids day! They probably told all their friends they met the real life incredible hulk. :D

Anyone else got cool stories like this? Keep them coming. I love this stuff. I bet Spatts get asked by little kids if she is Wonderwoman all the time.

Bro, I so wish I had pictures of before I started lifitng and now. I don't have any from when I was a kid.

I've been training for most of my adult life. I'm 44 now... and in high school I was 6'2" 150 lbs... a total weed.

Over the next many years I boosted up to 6'4" and topping out at 240-250lbs... I'm down now to 225 lbs.

One of the big things that I so wish I had down is document the body changes over the years. There have been many... and many different "eras." 5x5 is one of my favorite eras.

My wife was working on her pro card... and we had body shots on her ranging from her just starting years all the way up to her competiton days... pre show training pics... day by day shots as she cut... shots from when she tried different steroid cycles... everything. It was great to have.

Everybody should scrap book their body.

Thats some amazing progress! I wish you would have taken before pics too. It's always so amazing to see a huge transformation like yours.

When I started I was 144.5lbs at 6'2. I am now nearly 6'4, and 252ish. Although after a layoff from injury, not as hard as I'd like to be :( But stories like yours get me fueled to get back into it full force!

I wish I took more before pics, but I have very few. I was a human pencil, and ashamed of my body. I rarely let people take pics of me, unless I was wearing a jacket, or bulky sweater! Now I wish I had taken some. Go figure!

I like how you speak with a passion about your training. I can see lifting is a part of you in life, and something you love. I always look forward to your stories about the old days. I remember you posted one about working in a chemical plant I believe? Something about a waste can starting to bubble. That one had me rolling on the ground for hours!

Time to put on my friends little sisters shirt so I can rip the sleeves too =|. On a side note nice job my friend.

I try to keep measurements and lift numbers off the boards. I really believe we are all equal... just at different points in our development.

Besides, here I don't think it was a matter of my arms being so huge. It was that my shirt was too small. :)

Its posts like these that give me hope. I'm 6'3" and 171.8 lbs as of Friday. At Christmas I weight 154 lbs. When I graduated high school I weighed around 140 lbs.

I borrowed my mom's camera this weekend to take pics. I wish I would have taken pic's at christmas time to compare too.

BTW, very nice sofa george.

Bro, I started out just like you... 6'2" and 150 lbs. When I hit 170 lbs it was momentus. I remember getting up to 176 lbs and considering myself "buff" for the fist time in my life. When I hit 186 lbs I thought I was huge... couldn't get any bigger. :)

These boards are so inspirational... I am 6'3" also and weighed around 145 at high school graduation. After lifting some on college I have been stuck at around 170 for like 3 years. I'm just now seriously trying to gain weight again - my goal is 180 by July 1st. Luckily I have some pics from high school, when I was a cross country runner - so so skinny. If I ever get big I'll post em.

I actually feel pretty good about the way I look now. I know I can get bigger, but just the differences I see now. Its amazing how a little bit of a change can make you feel better about yourself. Cant wait until I am up to 225 or so lean.

I know a couple of us that are in the same boat, backlash and red dragon. I dont think I can explain how much of an inspiration this board has been. Although I hate you guys when I am choking down meal #7 for the day and think I am going to puke:p

You may actually find there is such a thing as too big. I took myself up to the 240-250lbs range... then brought myself back to my current 225lbs by choice. 250lbs is just too big. I could happily drop to 200-205lbs and feel just as good.

Are you hitting 5x5 for your training? One of the things I wish I had when I was just getting started was more knowledge of good routines. 5x5 would have been a Godsend back then.

I've been doing DC for now. I love the low volume and stretching, and I seem to be making pretty good gains.

But, I really like what I read about the 5x5 routine and have been thinking about switching to it. People seem to be making great gains from it in strenght along with size, and that sounds very good me.

Im not sure right yet though.

great work bro, thats one of those moments that stick in your head...
The other day I went to walmart. There was an old lady and maybe her 40 year old son walking behind me. I heard her say "Oh my god, look at the size of that guy". Then the guy replied with "geez, look at his back, is it supposed to look like that, where does he put his arms".
Kind of a silly moment, but it made me feel great. I guess buying my clothes in the kids section is starting to pay off....

Blind you've made some great gains. I remember when I went from 144lbs to 180, and I thought I was Arnold! LOL I remember when I hit 191 I was king of the world. 200 seemed like it would be paradise. Every time you hit a new weight, it really is a mini landmark for 'you'. It's a great feeling of accomplishment. As Sofa mentioned, you may actually find a time where you think a certain size is too much. Sounds crazy, but it's true. Keep up the great work.

Sofa, you just planted more seeds in the future of the bodybuilding world. I agree with the others, those kids are gonna grow up with that in their heads. There are little defining moments in our lives that shape and change us. That might be one of them for a couple of those kids.

First the dance team then these kids, lol you`re on a roll. You are as they say "representin" lol

lmfao! I was just thinking about your other story actually. I was jogging and for some reason it came into my head and i started cracking up. Another classic lol
