shingles I have found out is a strand of herpes from the chicken pox virus, it stays in your system for life after chicken pox.

If your imune system is weak, ie. aids, cancer, stress, even riods can weaken it then shingles can attack your nerves. The virus is stored in your spine.

The symtoms start out slow your skin is painful in a certain area, then you get a rash. Usally it stays on one part of your back and creates a ring. lasts for up to 4 weeks

Shingles is not cotagious in the sense that if you have them someone else is in danger of getting shingles. Having shingles can put people who have never had chickenpox at risk for having a case of chickenpox, but shingles do not put other people in danger of getting shingles.

Shingles attacks you directly at the nerves too...that's why you have such pain. The rash follows along the tracks of your nerves. Take the percosetts...they're fine. Or vicodin if you can't get perc's. I had it from my neck down my shoulder. It lasted about 3 weeks for the rash....2 weeks of bad pain, but the pain lingered less severely for another 2 or 3 weeks. You can uses some bactroban for the rash to prevent infections.
