They are always trying to rip you off whenever they have a chance ... today for example, I wanted to have my brakes checked out at my Jaguar and the guy told me that it will be $80 only for diagnosis and depending on what is wrong it may be anywhere from $ 300-800..

I told him WTF? he answered "it is a Jaguar"! I go:

"So what? I think you guys just wanna take advantage of people who drives a Jag or Mercedes or whatever....Give me break , man..I dont need your services"..And I walked away...

That was just my last encounter with those dreaded mechanics.

PS >I am sure that there are some good and honest mechanics out there but mostly are damn crooks..They prey on older folks more than any other ....

Do you guys have any beef against those guys?????

Mechanis are fuck faces. Best thing to do is find one that does work on the side. Thats what I do.

For small problems mechanics who work on the side are a good alternative but if you have a situation that requires some sophisticated equipment to diagnose the probelm you need a shop that have the adequate equipment.

Mechanis who does work on the side lack the technical equipment necessary to diagnose a complicated situation..

Maybe a brake job can be solved even by mechanics who does work on their own garage..

mechanics=fucker...I am grinding my teeth every time I have to deal with them; going to the dentist is a breeze....

Guess what? they wanna fuk with me..I fuk with them...

I took mine to court.
MUHAHAHHHAA

After having the payment held from my CC company the CC company told me that I had to prove that parts that were replaced with new parts did not have to replaced. Which is impossible because the parts in question are no longer in the car.

I have the *service advisor* on tape stumbling on her words after I told her I believed that there was uneccessary and incomplete work done (engine light turned on after I picked it up) to my car. When she told me to bring the car back to be looked at she told me that she was switching dealerships because they didn't give her the client list they promised her. She became increasingly defensive when I asked her why it should matter how many clients you have, it's not like you're working for a commission if you get paid a hourly/yearly wage.

It won't give me any real advantage - but I still have it if I need it.

Yup I had to bring my ride to the dealership so they could turn my ABS light off after I got the part fixed......

That how is it is. They force us to bring it there.

I'm lucky. My roommate is a mechanic at one of the largest car dealerships in town. So, in addition to having access to all the equipment, he can do car work on the side for a fraction of what I'd normally pay.

I am a mechanic (currently, anyway).

I fix all of my closest friends' cars for a fraction of the price. There are some good mechanics out there, but then again, with me being in the business, I know of some absolute horror stories as well (riping off older people who's hands shake when signing the bill, really sad stuff).

On the flip side, some customers are absolute assholes, and I will have an attitude with them if they bring one first. Your best bet is to be "cool," and if you think something is in question, politely tell them you "can't do the work right now" and take it somewhere else for a second opinion. If the car needs extensive work, I always offer to show the customer first hand so they know I am not trying to rip them off.

$80 just to LOOK at brakes is a complete rip off. Just take it somewhere else as there are planty of places that look at them for free (or maybe if you buy a tire rotation).
