I hate Tanita Scales!

These things seem to be so sketchy. I always get a difference of 6% when I weigh at 10:00 am then I weigh at 1:pm and am down 6%. Thats without anything more than a protien drink. I do not eat within an hour and a half before or after so why the big jump?

I have an older one. I have to put the setting at "athlete" even though I don't do the required cardio levels. I try to use the scale at the same time in the evening. You are suppose to urinate first too. It tends to come out consistently 2 - 3% higher that calipers... keeps me motivated... and depressed. LOL

I think these Bodyfat % scales are rubbish, I went on a set not long ago and I think it was trying to have a laugh with the reading it gave me. I wasnt amussed.

Did you notice in the manual where they tell you it's most accurate between 4-6pm? and that readings will fluctuate wildly throughout the day? They're also designed for endurance athletes, not BB'ers.

i got my bf tested yestarday........has anyone ever seen this thing....you stretch your arm straight out and she shoots like a lazer gun into your muscle...the test cost me 25 bucks,,,its definatly a pretty expensive piece of tech. i was very happy i was at 10% bf down from about 16-18 % after a var only cycle:)....
but has anyone heard of that equiptment?

when I worked at a gym we always told people not to eat for 10 hours to get a consistant reading, whether that works or not I dont know

I think tanita scales are great for RELATIVE measurements of my own body fat ONLY. Yes, it consistantly reads out at 2-3% higher than calipers, but it does it consistantly. This consistancy allows me accurate measurements of my own fat relative to the exact time the day before. And it measures my body weight to within 1/2 lbs.

To get the most accurate reading, do it first thing when you wake up in the morning. Go pee first, then weight/measure yourself. Make sure it's set to athelete. If you do this, it will be consistant and within 1% accuracy. Also, if you chose to weigh yourself in the afternoon on one, your bf will register about 2% lower than the morning value, because you have more water in your system.

I get very accurate readings on Tanita scales.
The exact fat % is probably not accurate. But the delta for the same person is accurate. If you want to know if you go low or high on the bodyfat make sure you follow these steps:
1. Weight yourself always with the same clothes (subtracing the clothes weight using the scale function) or better without any clothes on.
2. Weight yourself always on the same time of day. Pay attention that your hydration for that day is about the same as previous days (Do not drink 2 litters of water before measurement for example)

Keep in mind: Hydration level, Clothes and even shit you carry inside has an imfact on the readings. For me, 5 years straight I got good readings with the Tanita. Mainly because I pay attention to the points I've outlined.

for me the best thing about the tanita scales is that they help me to understand how hydrated i am, and alos, they are a fast, painless way to make you obsess a bit about your bf% and therefore stay on your diet

that being said, the bloody things are never, ever correct for me. they show me a good 5% too high unless i start getting close to the single digit bf% in which case, they arent tooooo bad

just like everyone else lol ;)
