Ironically, teh more you try to control someone the faster they slip through yoru grasp (at least emotionally). Nobody truly likes to be dominated and controlled, it's against human nature.

As little as a few weeks. I know someone that recently got a divorce and has one kid. He was instantly paying $220 a week for child support and had to move out of the house.
