I hate my laptop and the internet

Can anyone help my ass!!! Some how norton or windows or something poped a firewall up on my laptop and now i cannot use anything for the internet (AOL, AIM, Iexplore). I took the Windows firewall down, uninstalled the Norton program but nothings working. Meanwhile it says I have full signal strentgh and connection.

take it you are on a wireless connection correct? just because you have full signal does not necessarily mean you are online, that jsut means you have connection to the wireless access point. if your PC senses connection to the router that doesnt mean connection to the internet also. do this for me

start->run->type cmd....lets try pinging a site and see if you get a response to start with
then in the comman prompt window type "ping microsoft.com"

if you aren't hitting a DNS server you probably aren't online at all via a connection issue meaning won't get any response because the microsoft.com cannot be resolved to an IP addy

Not at home so hard to do but I appreciate help - I did a ping of my own connection last night and was fine but I guess that doesnt help to much - Will do once I get home tonight- Any other ideas? Is Norton good program for Virus and Internet?

I use norton antivirus but i don't use their internet security

If you are behind a wireless router you have a hardware firewall built in right there. no need to run anything else unless you want to run windows firewall which i would recommend
