I got scammed a few months ago..can I?

$900 to some "Tom" in Colorado. I sent a w/u and never heard from him again! Is there anything I can do, besides beat his azz down..which would cost more to get there then I lost:-( Is a scam really UNretrieveable? I guess I can't call the crown attroney and say " ay my gear never came"....???
