SO I was DLing my usual 315 for reps, grunting and groaning, when a guy IO had BSed with a few times came out of the basketball court and stood there going "damn...315!!!"

SO I finished my set (just 3 reps, I was going easy) and I was like, go for it! ANd he was like, naw, but if you put it on the bench I'll press it. And I was like, you can bench press 315? And then before I knew it he had stepped up to the bar and puts his hands right infront of his legs and goes, "like this?" and before I can answer picks up the bar like he was picking up a 25# plate. I was like, DAMN!!! And so was his friend.

I don't think he had ever deadlifted before.

I used to own everybody else....nobody else at my gym deadlifts and people always stare at me when I do.

There are only 6 plates in the entire gym and I use them all when I DL.

yes. and one barbell, two if you count the one embedded in the Smith machine.

God forbid if someone wants to "squat" 225 and someone else wants to bench 225. OR even worse if someone wants to bench while I am deadlifting.

To get 405 on the bar I had to use 35s and 10s

maybe time for a REAL gym (with at least 10 plates) where you are the small fish in the tank again. :)

It's the free gym where I work. That's where I w/o 3 times a week, well not really just once then there is another free gym where I w/o twice a week where there are no BBs'

Also I just bought a power rack and 480#s worth of barbell weights two weeks ago so I can squat at home. But I still like to DL at work because it's convenient to knock it out during lunch hour.

Gym memberships are too damn expensive. I try to make the free facilities work for me.

Is it better to be the big fish in a little pond or the little fish in the big pond?

I guess it's better to be the little fish in the big pond, but you got to occasionally visit the little pond to keep yourself in perspective.

It is all about motivation brother, you always need something to shoot for.....if you deadlift in a gym where 315 is considered a lot, and you're not in junior high, it is time to find a new gym. Not a flame, everyone is at different levels, but you need something to push you..you obviously have goals of training heavy and doing hardcore movements, a gym with 6 wheels aint hardcore.......I say fuck that gym free or not.

This is why i rarely do deadlifts anymore. if my squat and row go up then my deadlift always follows. If anything my deadlift goes up faster just from doing squats and rows than it does when i deadlift often.

Good point. I am thinking about leaving out the DLS altogether because my back and legs are sore from doign squats all the time. Time to concentrate on my squat then go back to DLs when 8 wheels are routine for me.

Here's your first problem...sticking to the same amount of weight, add a little each week, or two weeks...you'll be surprised how fast 5lbs a week makes your dl go up....push yourself bro

Ten bros X $10 -$20 each = small gym with 1000 pounds and 2 more Olympic bars.

Believe me I know. I actually joined the Employyes Committee at work to try to change the equip at the gym. If you saw how poor the weights and facilities are you guys would shit bricks.

After a while I realized the bureaucracy is too entrenched to do anything about it and bought my own weights for home.

Basically all they are missing is a free weight squat rack and after abotu a year of fruitless attempts to get them to upgrade their Smith machien and barbells I gave up and bought my own.

And as far as the weight, I am also rehabbing a bad elbow/wrist break so by usual I mean what I had gotten up to before I broke my elbow and what I have just gotten back up to now.

I'd rather be the weakest in a gym full of insanely strong brick-shithouses, just as long as they don't mind a skinny guy working out there.

well said. no drive when you are stronger than everyone in the gym.
