I got a ticket for going 111 MPH

SoreArms

New member
I was driving home from Sacramento last night, about a 6 hour drive, I took off kind of late so I wanted to make up on some time. The road is very desolate, mainly big rigs driving through, oly a couple of small towns on the way. So anyway, I was mashing through, punching it over 100 MPH every chance I got. I was doing great time, a little over halfway in only two hours. Then I see the lights behind me, fuck! These new CHP cars without the lights on top of the cars suck, I had been probing the road the whole time making sure to slow down if I saw any pigs. Since it was dark, I didn't see this fucker until it was too late. To top it off he informed me my liscence was suspended because of some fix it ticket I received earlier this year that I thought I had taken care of, but apparently didn't. I moved, didn't update my address so I guess they sent me letters, I never replied, so el liscence-o is supendo. Even worse is the fact that since i was going over 100 MPH, I actually have to go all the way in the fuck out there for court. Yay me.

How bad does the severity of the penalties change for going over 100 mph?

when I was 17 I got pulled over for doing 110 (at least I think it was 110, those old sweep speedos and the needle was buried in the dash) in a 45... had 4 beers in me too. Cop let me go - he didnt know about the drinking part though.

I'd flee to mexico and go live with family there.

No, you might get fined bad or something - I dont know.

Holy shit, he didn't take you to jail?

He asked me to get out of the car, then informed me that my liscence was suspended. I was shitting my pants thinking that he was going to arrest me (otherwise why ask me to get out of the car), I'm not sure if the look of shock and surprise was sincere enough that he believed me or what, but I'm glad he didn't.

I got arrested for a suspended license once...long story. A speeding ticket sucks even more though, you pay for those points for like three years.

did you have a radar detector in??? Plus forgot what it is ..but i think anything 15mph over the speed limit they can arrest you. So consider yourself lucky...Id show up for court with a Lawyer and you might not get points...either way youll pay a fine...but points suck

Yeah, I've been. Drove on the Autobahn. It's amazing. Youre lucky.

license suspension is automatic arrest here.

I had a $430 ticket last year doing 104 in a 65. They wanted to suspend my license for 30 days but I hired a lawyer to fight it. Ended up having to go to a two hour driving safety course.

The Statey who pulled me over gave me some BS about he would be watching for me because not too many Black vettes can be found near Indian Island. I told him it's a good thing I'm trading for a blue C6.

driving 30 above the speed limit is equal to getting a DUI according to insurance companies, IF they won't charge you with wreckless driving and endangerment you will still be paying over 500 bucks in court PLUS you didn't have a license so there's another 300-400 bucks.. i thought the law was everyone w/ suspended license is arrested.. maybe its different since u had a legit excuse.. anyways hope you got lots of money saved!

I don't know, I doubt that...but if you're questioning whether or not to get a lawyer, get one...otherwise they will rape you.....just having a lawyer makes the punishment less

I would guess you could argue had the ticket been 5-10 mph over, but 40+ mph over is gonna pwn you.

Look at the bright side Sorearms....when they throw you into prison at least you'll already be used to being rammed in the rear.

Reckless driving in MA is anytime they get you at over 85mph. (It used to be 100mph). Combine that with a suspended license, and you are looking at a helft fine, points galore on your driving record, and possibly getting your license pulled for 6 months.

Sucks. Good luck.

You'd want a lawyer for that. They would also want to see the officer's radar training and to see when the unit was last calibrated.

i had a similar ticket about 8 years ago when I was young and reckless on the roads. i think i was doing 119 in a 65. i got charged with reckless/dangerous driving, 6 month license suspension, and an $1,000 fine. i also couldn't drive until i forked over another $1000 for safe driving courses because my car insurance almost tripled after that.

I hope you told the officer that your taxes pay his salary. lol jk Definately hire a lawyer and this is correct...

There are books on how to get out of speeding tickets and such. The above quote are a couple of ways around them. But get a lawyer, this is slightly more than just a speeding ticket. I agree with fixing the suspension before the court date. Do it!

Be prepared for those defensive driving classes AT LEAST...

Oh yeah, get a lawyer.

You were going over 100 with a suspended license. That rotten "pig fucker" !

In this State, you'd be in jail and your vehicle impounded. Penalty would be about $1,000 in fines, no driving for one year and some jail time 30-90 days. Very heavy here.

What to do? With all this hanging over your head, I'd get a local lawyer. (They usually know the Judge.) Plead it out with the local PA before going to court so Judge simply comfirms the arrangement and drops the gavel. You want to pay a fine and bargin away the jail time.

Be neatly dressed, very humble and repentant. Let the lawyer talk for you.

Make sure someone drives you there. You don't have a license. (It is an old trick to pull you over behind the wheel as you leave the Court House.)

You didn't get arrested and have your car impounded?

Yeah, that's what I'm not understanding. The cop gives you a ticket for whatever... and he let's you go?!? He just let's you go AGAIN to drive without a license?

my brother was with me (his car) so the cop told him he had to drive the rest of the way.

Depending on the state, usually if your doing more than 50 over the limit it's an immediate loss of liscence for 6mo to a year.

Yeah....wtf..??

Driving with a suspended license in MO, gets you thrown in the slammer.

I was delivering a Viper 4 years ago, to a guy in Dallas, and got pulled over in Oklahoma.......167. He just wrote me a ticket....and told me, verbatim: Slow the fuck down you big juice monkey..... :)

reckless driving. Have fun. I lost my license for a month going 93 in the parents car, but I also recieved a speeding ticket the week before for going 75.

Whiskey

Man, with all this crap that happens to you now wonder everybody on a crotch rocket runs when a cop tries to pull them over.

Yep. Up here you'd be well & truly fucked unless the cop was really sympathetic. Licence suspended again, $2K-$3K fine. Insurance rape for 4 yrs.

fuck, you guys are scaring me.

You guys think that my lisence could be suspended regardless of driving record? My record has been super clean since 2000, although my prior fuck up was a DUI, but still this shouldn't be more that a 2 pointer. The current license suspension should be no more than taking care of the fix it ticket citation (loud exhaust) and probably paying some sort of fine.

Dude, have you talked to a lawyer yet? Don't get scared from what a bunch of yahoos are telling you on this board. But you are going to need to get some advice from a lawyer on this. No reason to stress out until he tells ya you are screwed.

Bro, I have bad news, the ticket will be $1000+

GOOD. Doing 111?!? JESUS, man, we had a guy doing about that on a fucking motorcycle last month. He hit a PT Cruiser broadside and the impact flipped the goddamn car over. Killed him deader than fuck, of course, but he took the driver of the car with him. Asshole.

Definitely need to get that duck back in the row. Shows you're trying, and not merely some kind of flaming homicidal asshole.

If your brother hadn't been in the other seat you wouldn't have left the scene. Got it? Triple digits. In the fucking dark. This is a Bad Thing, okay? And you aren't sounding nearly scared enough, or sorry enough. Yet.

I'm trying my best not to start stressing, crying and peeing in my pants until I have to. Court date is not 'til Nov 1, that's a long time to wait around stressing out.

ok, it is my understanding that one state can not revoke or take away a liscense from another state. they can fine and put you in jail but they have to recommend to the issuing state the revokation.

get a lawyer, yes your clean record will come into play since it will be a first offense. they will show alittle leniantcy on your part. but get that liscense re-instated before the court date. that will show a sign of good faith that you did in fact forget to pay the ticket. and yes if you do not pay for a ticket they will suspend your liscense, thats how they insure you will pay it.

i got pulled over doing 85 in a 70 but i found out that my liscense was suspended also. he told me that he could arrest me on the spot. but i asked him what it was for, he said failure to appear. i got a ticket that i was going to fight but the only court date i can get and not change was the same day i was to check into my new command in the navy in a different state. so i opted to pay the fine instead. well they never canceled the court date and when i didnt appear they suspended my liscense. so the cop let me go but my wife had to drive not me.

i also got pulled over doing 125 in a 65 in georgia. but the cop was so surprised i did that speed and the fact that i oppologized and was in the navy he let me go with a warning. a laughing warning. i was shocked but i just pulled back onto the road and did 55 all the way to florida. he didnt even run my liscense.

but yea, get a lawyer and be very respectful and show that you are very sorry for what you did. if he calls you and asshole tell him yes sir. do not argue. take the lecture and hopefully he will let you go with a small fine. the good thing is you werent racing. that would have screwed you over to the max.

You think either of them would have lived if it had been 70 MPH?

I'd probably start with the EF support page, some mods have links in their sigs.

If you're lucky, you might be able to keep most of your karma when it's all said and done.

No doubt I go 150mph plus all the time. I don't keep it there mind you but if there is no one ahead of me for a mile or two I will open it up until I see traffic then back'er back down. Speed can be done safetly if peeps would use some common sense. I mean how the heck do they do it in Germany?

yea im fairly sure thats wreckless which is a 6 pointer ,was it same state you live in? I had 12 points at one time and got an licence in ohio at dads address to keep insurance. but that was 14 yrs ago, they may be on to it now..

In CA you're allowed up to 3 points, license suspended on 4th (atleast this was the system when i got my DUI). DUI was only 2 points, I don't think (hope) or see how this would be more severe than a DUI.

A DUI is only 2 points??? WTF??
Up here, you get busted for a DUI,you lose your licence for 90 days, lose your car for 30 and get fined up to $21K, and go to jail for 3 days!!

You got off easy!

That ticket is going to cost a fortune, not to mention the penalties, and reinstatement fees for the drivers license. Around here it so boring, they will arrest you for going 30 over the posted speed, but good luck anyway.

SA,

I got a ticket doing 98 in California once.

First off, it totally depends on the county you are in as to how they handle it.

For some people, more then 20mph over the limit and you just can't take traffic school. In others its a set speed, like 85 or 100mph.

So I got mine in Ventura Country, north of LA. I was doing 98 in 65. Just a regularl ticket, EXCEPT, I had to appear. So I drive back up there, I wait in court, say "guilty" and pay my $300 fine on the spot.

So this doesn't help you much right? Well I was in traffic court about half a day and got to see all kinds of shit go down. MOST of the people there were busted for pot in the car, driving without a license, or going over 100mph.

The 100mph crew looked pretty normal, but they were slapping them with 1300 fines. OR you could do 13 days of community service if you didn't have the money. You could also request a payment plan there as well.

For what ever reason this county used 100mph as the cutoff for the big daddy fine. My 98mph was a mercy ticket, I was doing 105-110... but the cop knew that 100mph was the threshold, so he put me at 98.

Coincidentally, when this happened, I was driving back to San diego from Sacramento and it was the middle of the night. I was cruising down the grapevine and just letting the momentum carry this tiny little toyota tercel.

I got a ticket going to Mammoth once doing 87mph in a 65. I could handle the whole thing via mail, but they said no traffic school. Funny thing is, the CHP said I could do traffic school, but when I mailed it in to the court they said no. I called them up to confirm and they said more then 20mph over the limit means no traffic school. I guess they feel that gross speed violations aren't cured with an 8 hour mind numbing class, but running a stop sign is.

I've thankfully not had anything on my record for 3 years now (knock on wood!)

fuck, $1000+ would hurt me royally. I would definatley opt for the community service, except that this is in another county (Fresno, or Bakersfield) and I doubt that they'd let me do it in LA.

So far I'm thinking that I'll admit to speeding, no doubt about it, but might question the validity on the 111 MPH reading. How did he determine it, if speed gun, then request callibration records (as mentioned earlier), etc... Other than that I'm gonna be at the mercy of the court. Unfortunately I'm sure this court is gonna be full of speedsters since that highway must be a constant ticket site, so I doubt they'll have any pitty on me..

You're lucky you were not in DC. They arrest you here if going more than 30mph over the posted limit.

(1) You're in california (gotta love states that could give a rat's ass about the individual. liberalism rules, not)
(2) Reckless driving
(3) Suspended license.

Which means:

You're PRIME material for the state to fine the fuck out of you to pump their coffers. Jail time costs THEM money, so that ain't happening. Plus they'll enjoy having you have the pleasure of driving all the way up there to answer teh charges. Another cost added to it.

So a few thousand, maybe a month or two added on top of your current suspension and some points. And of course higher insurance.

I think u need to start spending more time on the EF business forum to start figuring ou how to pay fro all this shit. :)

(btw: lawyers are fine, but they just add on more costs to the total bills. they're only useful when you're facing long suspension times and/or jail times, and the costs are immaterial compared to the suppression of driving freedoms or liberty).

In a Tercel? I suspect the speedometer was optimistic. Unless you were going downhill.

Got a DUI in california and my license was never suspended. 1400$ in fines though.

Not the asshole on the bike but the innocent guy in the car? maybe. I still can't believe a bike could flip a fucking PT Cruiser upside down, but he managed it.

Yeah, yeah, we both know it's the sudden stop. You telling me you never came up on a big rig at 2AM with all his trailer lights out? At 75 it's "What the? Sheeit!" Except at 100+ it's more like "Wha--?" BAM. Decapitation scenario, they couldn't put that trailer at a worse height if they tried.

California isn't the Northeast.

What in the bloody hell are you defending here? You think we all ought to drive like we're on the Autobahn even though our roads aren't up to it, our cars aren't up to it, and most of the drivers around us don't have a fucking clue about something as simple as keeping to the right???

I see an asshat who's doing triple digits on a revoked license and he's telling us how he's thinking "PIG" at the cop. Yeah, that's real Autobahn material right there. What thread are you reading?

Dude, seriously, get a lawyer. At least have a consult and see what you're up against. DO NOT go in with half a plan! They'll get you even worse if you give them shit about "Calibration" and other inspections without doing ti the right way. You have to present yourself and the proposals or questions PROPERLY. Even if you have to pay a lawyer $200 for a 10 minute consult, you're better off than going alone with no ammo. They'll laugh at you in court AND not feel guilty about giving you life in prison.

or the death penalty.

In my experience, people who live in the NY/NJ/CT/PA/MA/RI/NH/VT/DE area have no concept of just how long, straight, lonely, desolate and boring the highways of the American West can be, or of how sparse the population density gets when you get outside of the major metropolitan areas.
