"I forgot to eat"

Help me get my mind around this would you?

How do you forget to eat?

I understand the following:

Not having time.
Not having food or money at that moment of hunger.
Choosing not to eat.
Eating too much.
Eating too little.
Postponing eating until a better suited time.

Just for the life of me I don't know how you could forget to eat.

Do you have to think putting your shoes on before going outside?
Do you have to think about wiping your bum?
Do you have to think about opening your mouth to take a drink?

I need answers!

Thanks.

I've done it... ADD.

I'll get occupied with something and say "ahh i'll go get food in a minute"... 3 hours later rolls around

It happens.

I did that lots in law school. I would get hungry but had classes, work, and had to read over 300 pages per night and be ready to respond to the Socratic method the next day. After about an hour hunger goes away and it may be 6 or 7 hours later, and I would remember that I had not eaten lunch, or whatever. I lost 30 lbs in law school. I only weighed 100 lbs by the end of school.

That's not forgetting to eat.

You've acknowledged that should eat, but you actively have chosen another activity to have precedence over stopping to eat and you did not get around to eating.

Not getting around to it by being preoccupied doesn't seem the same as "forgetting" to me.

(I don't remember eating much in college - between not having enough money or choosing to spend any spare cash on saving for something or drinking we didn't really make eating a priority - but believe me eating was not forgotten.)

No?
Maybe?

Anyone?

Did you shorten your name?

That's like "oh I gotta pee" and 45 minutes later... the sensation between your legs is telling you - GO PEE NOW - NOW!

I know this isn't very lady-like of me but I have the worst gas of my life tonight. At least I think it is gas...my stomahc is just turning and there are sharp pains and stuff. Ugh. Somebody hold me and tell me everything is going to be alright.

I already filled my quota of EF forumers that I do that for.

Oh gosh, sweetie. I completely feel your pain. I have had this feeling almost every night since I got pregnant, to the point that I sometimes double over with cramps. Tonight is the first night in a long time that I actually don't have it.

You have any pepto or tums?

that's just a wicked dump a brewin

Ding ding ding!!! Velvett, I do that. or at least used to do it a lot. Not so much anymore really. I'm all screwed up now anyway.

I used to WANT to eat, but would just let the time go without forcing myself to eat. I'm (or used to be...) rarely hungry. Especially in the mornings. If It weren't for the lifting weights, I would NEVER eat breakfast and I usually go to 1, 2 PM until my first meal of the day, just because I wasn't hungry.

So, I force myself to eat breakfast and have to remind myself to have the other meals of the day. I've done it that way for many years until the last couple.

I just had no appetite. If I didn't force myself, I would be one of those "one meal per day" people. or Two meals...

I was always a skinny guy and I always will be when I don't "apply"/"remind" myself. to eat. lol

I hate food.

I've always said that I would love to swallow one pill a day instead of eating. omg HEAVEN. Seriously.

Ehh.

And when I tell that to my SIA, she says "If you say "I'm never hungry" one more time, I'm going to throw this (whatever she's holding in her hands at the moment) at you!" lol It's funny.

Ehh.

thats me too. only thing that gets me hungry is EQ, and I use that to cut not bulk :worried:

by the end of a bulking cycle I'm completely sick of eating and crapping all frigging day. (TMI)

I have selective memory. Eating is important to my goals, so I don't forget to eat. Yet, I often can't remember what I did yesterday.

I don't think anyone forgets to eat...
They prioritize...
If they are shopping...reading, surfing the net, painting, etc...doing something that exites them, then they "forget" to eat...IMO hunger is substituted with an emotion be happiness/sadness and well as long as they are in that state of mind the hunger seems distant....
As soon as the person i.e. walks out of the store the person realizes He is starving

i've forgotten.
usually only in the mornings when i'm getting ready. I'm busy getting everyone else off, getting myself ready, cleaning up, figuring out dinner for later, etc., and before i know it its 11am and i'm wondering why i'm so hungry.

Well, if one is never really hungry, then they have to remind themselves to eat after a certain amount of hours. So, when they forget to remind themselves.... they "forgot to eat".

It happens all the time, really.

I guess I see it differently.

Forgetting to means to have never thought about it - therefore being too busy or preoccupied to eat is not forgetting it's just been given a low level priority because you have not gotten to it yet.

for·get (fər-gĕt', fôr-)

v., -got (-gŏt'), -got·ten (-gŏt'n) or -got, -get·ting, -gets.

v.tr.
To be unable to remember (something).
To treat with thoughtless inattention; neglect: forget one's family.
To leave behind unintentionally.
To fail to mention.

How do fitness people forget to eat? - that's even more curious to me.

Do you forget to work out too?

And those with children - do you forget to pick up your kid from school or the bus stop?

I don't understand how certain life activities could not be remembered.

I guess it's really good that people start to stink when they're not clean with all this forgetting stuff.

To me that's not forgetting - that falls under being too busy.
I think that happens to everyone.

pigs ususally do.

So do :cow: :cow: :cow: ....

If the MOO fits right?

I've never forgotten to eat - I've put it off, ran out of time to do so and chosen not to but the act of filling my empty stomach has never slipped my mind.

Getting heavily involved in solving a software problem I've looked at the clock and two hours had passed in what seemed like twenty minutes, missed lunch.

That's just being preoccupied with what you are involved in and losing track of time - perfectly normal - you missed a time slot you did not forget the time slot and what it was for.

Yes, I am stubborn and pigheaded. :)

I do this all the friggin' time. Usually happens most on weekends (when my days aren't so structured)

Same here. I guess I forget to eat, I just end up remembering later, after I've crashed and I'm behind on my meals. I'll be late to work before I skip breakfast though.

My reaction to stress! My body 'forgets' to get hungry if I'm stressed out and if I'm stressed out my time is in use everywhere else and . . well, you get the picture. Not intelligent and I'm working on eating 'anyway'.

it may have slipped your mind for a while. . .but, unless you die of starvation, i submit to you that you did not truly "forget". . .

I usually agree with you velgirl, but what you're saying isn't really right. The coffee dude's example seemed like he "forgot". That is definately not the best word to use, but he did want to eat and did sort of plan on it, but was too busy without knowing he was busy... thuis forgetting. How else do you forget something? He didn't actively say "I want to eat in 40 minutes", but he did want to eat in about 40 minutes... He was doing other stuff and the time slipped by before he realized it, thus "forgetting" to say "Oh shit, I have to eat right about now."

Am i seeing it differently, yet again?

and How about my example? Would you categorize that as forgetting? I would, because i do have to set my watch to remind myself to eat or I'd go almost the whole day without food. It's because I used to eat when my hunger called for it.

I have to be honest - my head is pounding so bad right I can't even read this and respond because I think I may have to have a meeting with the porcelain bowl.

cuse me

No, honesty would be saying "Gonelifting, where the fuck did you learn to write? Wherever it was, they fucked you up. Go back there and kill them and their children." That would be hinesty. I GAVE YOU the damn headache, woman!

My writing does that to people.

Oh shit, it's 2PM, better go eat. ha jk.

So, in other words, they were distracted and forgot?

Oh yeah, that's the point we were making slick.
