I Finally Got a new Computer!

I didn't break the bank and pretty much put it together myself. I used my old floppy which is about 5 years old but everything is brand new or bought in the last six months. I spent about $400 for a new processor, motherboard, case, and HD.

So now I have An Athlon XP 1800 (running about 1.5GHZ)
120GIG HD
512RAM

A big improvement from my 5 year old 500mhz Aptivia. A much better computing experience.

SOunds pretty sweet. Are you gonna try to turn it into "an ultimate gaming machine"? If so, you will need a nice video card. I wish I had some money to upgrade my PC...:)

yeah what kinda video are you running up in that piece? i've got an xp1900 w/512 pc2100, g4 ti4200, and the baddest 5 1/4" floppy on the market. i've never seen windows 3.1 run so smooth in my entire life. what kind of motherboard are you using?

Well I do plan to do some gaming. I tried playing GT3 and Max Payne on the old system and the slowness/choppiness was unbearable. My plans do include getting a DVD burner and trying to make some DVD's. Everyone who has one tell me the love it.

supersizeme: You're running window 3.1???

I have an Amptron 810 motherboard with onboard video/audio/modem. The video memory goes up too 64MB shared which is what I set it at. I'll buy a rockin' video card with TV out soon enough. I had a 64mb Soundblaster sound card that was awesome but it was ISA so I can't use it. But I did at least buy a 32mb Soundblaster PCI sound card because the onboard audio ws awful.

no, i was kidding about windows 3.1. i use XP. i run the onboard sound on mine, and it's just as good as any sound card i've had. i'm surprised to hear yours sucks...most mobos have pretty good sound on them these days. once you get a video card to throw in that very lonely AGP slot, you will be rocking.

lol. Good to hear you aren't runnin'g 3.1 supersize.

Honestly I was spoiled by my 64meg Soundblaster. Everything sounded great or at least very clear. Example the link in my sig (my personal page) sounded great with my old sound card. Very orchestral. I've listen to it on dozens of computers and it never sounded nearly as good. And I have a friend with a hooked up P4 system but my old card still sounded better. Most people don't upgrade to higher end sound cards. The reason I bought that one was I got a great deal on it my old and board got fried by lightning so while it worked, there was no more sound. Unless it's a 32mb or greater you're not gonna hear much of a difference from the board soundcard. And I'm looking for to being able to buy a top of the line video card. It sucked not have a APG slot all this time.
