For some, it doesn't take much does it? How many thousands of dollars was spent to cover the statue up? like 8k?

these two parties make me want to scream.......would some independent man/woman please stand up for the people!

I'd volunteer to help em campaign.

Well, in order to understand conservatism, you first need to stop oversimplifying the stated positions of people who know a hell of a lot more about.......well, just about everything.......than you do. However, I can tell you that you will never be welcome in the conservative community with that screen name, although the liberal camp will welcome you with open arms---and open asses.

BTW, Uzi's ARE great.

I am damn tired of hearing about Ashcroft and the statues.

But I also know why I keep hearing about them here.

its b/c he is a man of standards and convictions and many of you do not like that in an individual and the statue thing is all you can dig up on him to bitch about besides the basic conservative platform.

Good post Hangfire:)

I think if we had a few more guns around, that moral decay shit would be a lot slower. A LOT SLOWER. People would be more considerate and act better.

Standards and convictions my ass. Wasn't that statue representing Justice? Maybe covering it up was ashcroft's subconcious being ironic.

Having standards, is not a problem for me. However, wasting taxpayers money 7-8k for a curtain to cover the statue is.

I could find plenty of idiotic things he's done.......and I could care less for the conservative or dem platform. They're both corrupt, liars who do not serve the interests of the majority of the American public.

That is obvious to anyone.

as far as the party duopoly its likle a business of two monopolies contolling th epolitical landscape

one party is fiscally conservative, and socially liberal....DEMS

and

one party is fiscally conservative, and socially conservative...REP

any similarities????

yes!! they are almost identical on fiscal issues....and since fiscall issues essentially controll the structure and character of our Government.........nothing is changed

and since most of societies problems are sytemic, and are a byproduct of a flawed system.....nothing ever is changed...because fiscal policy has not changed, it just serve elite interests who controll us all

make sense?

The reason AG Ashcroft spent the money to cover the statue was because the dumbass news media jerkoffs were purposely trying to get a photo angle that included the breasts in the background. I suppose the object was to somehow make the subject of the photo & news story look like a fool. It really amounted to a mature adult slapping the hands of a bunch of misbehaving children. Same as when the military makes the reporters stand on the sidelines after their shameful behavior in Somalia.

The bottom line to all of this is that the liberal democratic agenda places no restraints on whatever means are necessary to discredit the oppposition, and those means may be as honest or dishonest as the individual may choose. As a matter of fact, that is a perfect example of the situational ethics doctrine that is one of the liberal planks--the end justifies the means as long as you personally believe the end is right, right now.

BTW Omega,
The Dems are fiscally conservative? Since when? The Democratic party has never met a tax they didn't like. The have spent every dollar they can find--and then some. It is like a sickness for them---they cannot stop. I laugh when I hear libs claim that President Reagan is responsible for the public debt of the late 80's & early 90's. Ronald Reagan was responsible for the huge increase in federal tax income through his broad tax cuts, and the Democrats outspent every dollar the government took in, leaving a mess that Presient Bush had to fix--just in time for Clinton to take credit for it. All fact and easily confirmed.

I´ve said this before but you disappeared. Hitler had convictions and standards. What´s your point?

sorry if I am not able to spend hours at a time here.

When I speak of a man with standards, I am describing him as a man that stands for what is right despite what is popular or contemporary. Ashcroft is sort of a throwback because he believes in values that were common back in the 40's and 50's.

Your bringing up hitler here is, well, reaching.

Hitler stood for wrong. Aschcroft stands for right. The two could not be any more different.-----but really when you get right down to it I imagine you probably know that, dont you?

You think Hitler was a man of Convictions??? I disagree.:)

What everyone fails to mention in this situation is that those statues were covered while several presidents were in office during some events. they were covered when Clinton was in office during two speeches - yes that's right CLINTON.

As for the bullshit about spending $8,000 of taxpayer money, the cutains were rented from a company during previous events for about $2,000 a day. So, if you get right down to it, Ashcroft actually saved taxpayer money in the long run.

In the interest of fairness, no tax bill could pass without the cooperation of both houses and both sides of the aisle of Congress. true the Democrats have wrapped themselves in the communist/populist flag by always calling for raising taxes in response to any budget question, but despite the rhetoric in the end both parties are responsible for the current system.

(this is to condemn BOTH of them, not to justify the Democrats.)

MOVE The press conference room........that would certainly cost less than 2k per day. Or MOVE the statues. They can lick microphones from anywhere.

Like hell he's saving taxpayer money by spending 6-8 K to cover up the justice statue compared to renting it. Why not just go down to Home Depot and buy one of those big blue tarps for $50 bucks. Some of the Walmarts have similar tarps in green/gray reversable. Does covering up a symbol of justice constiture statuary rape?

The point is that it was not a "conservative" thing. it was a thing that liberals and conservatives alike have done in the past. Let's not even start a thread on things the government can do to save money.

They've spent $8,000 on nuts and bolts.

I just can't understand how ANYONE can support EITHER of these parties....

The whole problem I have is that Ashcroft's morality crusade is that it's so phony. I'm sure the man has enjoyed Playboy or Hustler more than once in his life. He probably enjoyed a lot of premarital sex and smoked a lot of weed through the 60's. Now that he's too hold to get an erection he decides to crusade against nudity and declare himself holier than thou. It's just so FAKE!

Someone back this statement up please. It is my understanding that Ronald Reagan & Bush 4x the national debt. 900 billion to 4 trillion.

http://www.publicdebt.treas.gov/opd/opdhisto4.htm

we spend $380 billion annually paying interest on the national debt, which to me is just a form of welfare for the wealthy (giving $380 billion a year to rich bankers). I am trying to be unpartisan (i'm not really a democrat, but i'm a radical left winger) but it appears that bush & reagan expanded the debt, and as a result added about $260 billion a year in taxes to pay off the interest.

I love the national debt btw. We pay tons of money to the gov. so the gov. can give us our own money back, and bankers pocket a large percentage every year of it. Its somewhat humerous.

Hitler stood for wrong. Aschcroft stands for right.

As if there is a fixed notion of what that means.

You think Hitler was a man of Convictions??? I disagree.

He most certainly had convictions. Jews are the enemy. Strengthen the military. Aryan race superiority. Communism is the enemy.

These are convicitons every one, my friend.

Me EITHER, they're both known LIARS, which therefore gives them no integrity. Which, in these times, a honest, non hypocritical government is needed to manage the country, and improve the welfare of all of the country, not just the RICH.

They're both CORRUPT........constantly interchanging public office for companies who do business with the government, so there is ALWAYS a conflict of interest for the American people.

Both use the lunatic logic that well, "the other one is worst."

Overlooked this one. You must tell me what "values" you are talking about.

This should be interesting...

1. sanctity of the family.

2. sanctity of life.

3. reverance for Christ

These are a few of the 'values' that Ashcroft stands for that make him unpopular. These are the same values that caused Dan Quayle to fall victim to the liberal media. In Quayle's casa, many people took the line that the media fed them and thought that he was an idiot, when in reality he is a good man and a strong leader and would make a great president. Ashcroft is also a good man who believes in many good old fashioned family values that make him unpopular today. These values that make him unpopular are the same traits that make him the great man that he is. These values were descriptive of main stream America back in the 40's and 50's----and then the 60's happened and then the 70's and here we are arguing if there is a true meaning to the words: 'right' and 'values' :)

this quote represents all that is wrong with America. People think that everyone is 'doing it', so its OK. This is what has got us where we are today in moral decline.

You Assume So Much. You realize these are just Assumptions here, dont you? They have no foundation.

Prove his reverence for Christ.

What aspect of religion is he following? In his methods of LYING, circumventing laws, restricting American citzens civil liberties in the name of national security.

I liken that to a time when George Bush wasn't a politician, he owned part of the Rangers, and the times up until Sept 11th, religion was NOT a part of his dialogue.

I also like the lack of response he fumbled with when Reilly asked him what would Jesus think of your number of executions in Texas as governor.

Just like bush, asscroft is using religion, and other "values" which by the way, you're right, we have morally decayed from....
but when your repub party's christian leader owns a racehorse, and publicly states that he's only fascinated with watching them run..........yet won't denounce gambling at the tracks, there is no credibility there. Sorry I'm not buying the shit they're shoveling....................

I find that statement to be ironic since most who claim to be independent or moderate don't "stand" for much at all in terms of ideas. It's more like, lick the finger, hold it up and see which way the wind is blowing today.

The freest and most powerful country in the world (the US) has a two party system because that is what works best. General conservative ideology vs General liberal ideology are the two camps most thinking Americans fall into.

Well, seeing as how most who are truly independent are rarely heard...who are you listening to? explain who you're talking about. Which independent, and which moderates...even though I didn't mention anything about moderates.

As for standing for something, being part of a corrupt system is nothing to crow about. I don't care if you do two things right, and turn your head when unethical, immoral, hypocritical behavior happens.......that's nothing to be proud of.

On my extended stays(in other countries) in the past, (and any future ones), I engage in conversations with people, and it's amazing how they can know so much about our dirty work around the world, and americans don't, or refuse to believe we could be part of such behavior.

Actually, it is downright embarrassing.

Probably not to you though huh?

And you're right, most Americans do fall into those camps.

That is a reflection on the ignorance, lack of education, immaturity, indifferent attitudes of the public. Not because they make intelligent decisions about corrupt politicians.....Most don't care about what happens to their next door neighbor, let alone how shi**y a job the government is doing......unless it affects them directly, and continously. Even then, most are too uneducated to do a damn thing about it.

ttlpkg......

Seeing as how I don't think much of corruption in our government,
I think lowly of those who actively support corrupt politicians, agendas, etc.

Basically, I think they're lowlife scum.

They are not the solution, they are part of the problem.

I am talking about people like Sen Jeffords(sp), I believe that's his name, the guy who is a switch hitter and swung the Senate in the favor of the Dems cuz W pissed him off. People like Ross Perot run for Pres with no chance of victory, only to be a "spoiler".

You are clearly a "glass half empty" kind of guy gympoppa. Of course there are problems in the system, it is not perfect. I challenge you to identify a better one. You and others always go on and on about how you have travelled and how it is so much better elsewhere, how you are so embarrassed to an American, blah, blah. You assume that no one else has lived in other countries? I'll bet there are many, many people from each country that you would name that are living happily now in the US.

America is a great place, warts notwithstanding. Instead of throwing my hands up and condeming the two party system, I would rather work within it to make things better.

I'm not interested in identifying another one.......I'm living here, so this is my focus, if I move to another country, then your suggestion MIGHT apply. YES, it is EMBARASSING TO HEAR OTHER PEOPLE comment about negative things, somethings we do..that you may not even be aware of..doesn't it bother you? would it?

A lot of Americans need to travel and live in other countries, it will open your eyes, to some things NONE of them have no clue about. And from a lot of the comments posted here, it's OBVIOUS a good number of people haven't travelled anywhere, nor or they interested in immersing themselves in another culture. I refer to that because you can't buy that kind of education/experience @ Harvard, or UT.

No, I'm not a "glass half-empty kind of guy.....dude. I just watch you like others aligned with these corrupt parties ignore the shortcomings of your own affiliation, and fingerpoint, blame, incite hate, and demean the other party. That doesn't sound like anyone who's focused on improving their own shortcomings, or working together. You like others here, have yet to do anything other than fingerpoint...or only list a meager...incomplete list of accomplishments. That's a truer definition of half-empty, only telling part of the story. Ignoring the corruption, lies, and deceit. Now, when I call your party on it, you want to compare us with other countries, or tell me how many people would be happy to live here.......as though I should be happy with what I got. With that kind of logic, is that how you train, live, and work? focus on the good points, and downplay/ignore your lack of ability to bring/or improve your negative aspects?

Even though I wasn't talking about Jeffords, why exactly did he quit the repub party? I heard Bush largely ignored things he wanted for his constituents, until he realized that jeffords was going to quit the party, then he sent EVERYBODY to persuade him to stay......jeffords deserves credit for not following along with the sheep.........

Bush campaigned on a theme of diversity, compassionate conservatism.......yet, he's attacking Ron Kirk, who's known for working with either party (corporate or people), for doing the same........He's courting Hispanic votes, yet he's trashing a guy who he appointed to the UT regents board........

I'll never settle for such mediocrity, when there is clearly a need for improvement, and no effort except divisive behavior.

Well I have travelled and lived in other cultures and I am not as negative as you seem to be.

You are indeed a glass half empty guy.

Just because W promotes diversity doesn't mean he going to support Kirk just cuz he's black. Bush obviously wants to see Graham replaced by a republican. Nothing wrong with that.

You won't settle for mediocrity huh? So what are you doing to make improvements? Besides throwing stones?

I'm negative? About corrupt politicians? Whatever....that assumption doesn't rate anymore words from me.

Prove the diversity W promotes....it has nothing to do with Kirk being black.....you just stated the reason why he's attacking him.....and you ignored the what I said.....in a typical corrupt party kind of way.....instead of campaigning, he's resorting to personal attacks. Apparently, he knows nothing about Kirk.....so just make up shit. That's positive huh? If you are in agreement with the mudslinging that politicians spend millions on, instead of actually fixing problems.....there isn't much we will ever agree on....as far as politicians/politics go.

I'm doing a lot of things, if you were truly interested in making the country better, you wouldn't have to ask what I'm doing you'd be asking how you can help. ...now, you're whining because I post on threads about the disgusting amount of corruption in politics, and the conflict of interest between former gov officials who simply slide back and forth between the companies who benefit the most from government. YES, if that is throwing stones....then I'm guilty......most Americans don't have a clue, most don't know, and NONE of the sorryass politicians you suck up to, don't want that to change. They prefer that millions of Americans are indifferent about voting....are ignorant of what they do....they prefer that millions are illiterate, or don't pay attention. They prefer that the majority of the population (Hispanics, Blacks, Asians, etc) don't vote.

They prefer that the starting line be the way it is, or even regressing.
They prefer politics to stay exactly as they are.....with no improvements.

Where have you lived outside the country that wasn't a military base? Or linked to military duty? And for how long?

You're right, you're not negative, you're happy. Your glass is full.......of corruption, and whatever else your party promotes..

OK, how can I help you? Change my outlook to match your own?

Since you have now qualified your standard for living outside of the US to other-than-military installations, I'll have to limit it to Canada and Mexico. I don't think travelling as a member of the military keeps me from learning a lot about other countries though. Arguably I learn more.

Yes, I am happy, but my glass is only half-full.
