But I also know why I keep hearing about them here.
its b/c he is a man of standards and convictions and many of you do not like that in an individual and the statue thing is all you can dig up on him to bitch about besides the basic conservative platform.
Good post Hangfire![]()

For some, it doesn't take much does it? How many thousands of dollars was spent to cover the statue up? like 8k?
these two parties make me want to scream.......would some independent man/woman please stand up for the people!
I'd volunteer to help em campaign.
its b/c he is a man of standards and convictions

I´ve said this before but you disappeared. Hitler had convictions and standards. What´s your point?
gymnpoppa said:
Having standards, is not a problem for me. However, wasting taxpayers money 7-8k for a curtain to cover the statue is.
I could find plenty of idiotic things he's done.......and I could care less for the conservative or dem platform. They're both corrupt, liars who do not serve the interests of the majority of the American public.
That is obvious to anyone.
Hangfire said:The Democratic party has never met a tax they didn't like. The have spent every dollar they can find--and then some. It is like a sickness for them---they cannot stop.
bigguns7 said:What everyone fails to mention in this situation is that those statues were covered while several presidents were in office during some events. they were covered when Clinton was in office during two speeches - yes that's right CLINTON.
As for the bullshit about spending $8,000 of taxpayer money, the cutains were rented from a company during previous events for about $2,000 a day. So, if you get right down to it, Ashcroft actually saved taxpayer money in the long run.

MOVE The press conference room........that would certainly cost less than 2k per day. Or MOVE the statues. They can lick microphones from anywhere.

When I speak of a man with standards, I am describing him as a man that stands for what is right despite what is popular or contemporary. Ashcroft is sort of a throwback because he believes in values that were common back in the 40's and 50's.

BTW Omega,
The Dems are fiscally conservative? Since when? The Democratic party has never met a tax they didn't like. The have spent every dollar they can find--and then some. It is like a sickness for them---they cannot stop. I laugh when I hear libs claim that President Reagan is responsible for the public debt of the late 80's & early 90's. Ronald Reagan was responsible for the huge increase in federal tax income through his broad tax cuts, and the Democrats outspent every dollar the government took in, leaving a mess that Presient Bush had to fix--just in time for Clinton to take credit for it. All fact and easily confirmed.
Hitler stood for wrong. Aschcroft stands for right.
You think Hitler was a man of Convictions??? I disagree.

Overlooked this one. You must tell me what "values" you are talking about.
This should be interesting...

The whole problem I have is that Ashcroft's morality crusade is that it's so phony. I'm sure the man has enjoyed Playboy or Hustler more than once in his life. He probably enjoyed a lot of premarital sex and smoked a lot of weed through the 60's. Now that he's too hold to get an erection he decides to crusade against nudity and declare himself holier than thou. It's just so FAKE!

I find that statement to be ironic since most who claim to be independent or moderate don't "stand" for much at all in terms of ideas. It's more like, lick the finger, hold it up and see which way the wind is blowing today.
The freest and most powerful country in the world (the US) has a two party system because that is what works best. General conservative ideology vs General liberal ideology are the two camps most thinking Americans fall into.
gymnpoppa said:
Well, seeing as how most who are truly independent are rarely heard...who are you listening to? explain who you're talking about.
As for standing for something, being part of a corrupt system is nothing to crow about. I don't care if you do two things right, and turn your head when unethical, immoral, hypocritical behavior happens.......that's nothing to be proud of.
On my extended stays(in other countries) in the past, (and any future ones), I engage in conversations with people, and it's amazing how they can know so much about our dirty work around the world, and americans don't, or refuse to believe we could be part of such behavior.
That is a reflection on the ignorance, lack of education, immaturity, indifferent attitudes of the public.
Frackal said:I just can't understand how ANYONE can support EITHER of these parties....

Moral absolutism exists.

I am talking about people like Sen Jeffords(sp), I believe that's his name, the guy who is a switch hitter and swung the Senate in the favor of the Dems cuz W pissed him off. People like Ross Perot run for Pres with no chance of victory, only to be a "spoiler".
You are clearly a "glass half empty" kind of guy gympoppa. Of course there are problems in the system, it is not perfect. I challenge you to identify a better one. You and others always go on and on about how you have travelled and how it is so much better elsewhere, how you are so embarrassed to an American, blah, blah. You assume that no one else has lived in other countries? I'll bet there are many, many people from each country that you would name that are living happily now in the US.
America is a great place, warts notwithstanding. Instead of throwing my hands up and condeming the two party system, I would rather work within it to make things better.
The Nature Boy said:gymnpoppa is a pretty laid back guy, I've met him personally. But when you get him going he's a frigging bulldog!!

And from a lot of the comments posted here, it's OBVIOUS a good number of people haven't travelled anywhere, nor or they interested in immersing themselves in another culture.
No, I'm not a "glass half-empty kind of guy.....dude
Bush campaigned on a theme of diversity, compassionate conservatism.......yet, he's attacking Ron Kirk,
I'll never settle for such mediocrity, when there is clearly a need for improvement, and no effort except divisive behavior.
1. sanctity of the family.
3. reverance for Christ
ttlpkg said:
Well I have travelled and lived in other cultures and I am not as negative as you seem to be.
You are indeed a glass half empty guy.
Just because W promotes diversity doesn't mean he going to support Kirk just cuz he's black. Bush obviously wants to see Graham replaced by a republican. Nothing wrong with that.
You won't settle for mediocrity huh? So what are you doing to make improvements? Besides ind throwing stones?
gymnpoppa said:
I'm doing a lot of things, if you were truly interested in making the country better, you wouldn't have to ask what I'm doing you'd be asking how you can help.
Where have you lived outside the country that wasn't a military base? Or linked to military duty? And for how long?
You're right, you're not negative, you're happy. Your glass is full....
