I've always wanted to take up boxing but it was never available where I was from (Baton Rouge). I just moved to New york and found tons of places. I did a lot of research and Thai boxing seems to interest me the most. Anyone know of a good place to take it here (New York). There are several academys in Manhattan I just don't know which one to choose. Also if you know of any other style of fighting similar to the "hands on, full contact" Thai boxing that has an academy here I would love to hear about it.

Hey bro, I'm from the west coast. I know a few guys on the east. Let me check some things out for you and I'll get back to you with as much as I can.

And welcome to the peaceful art of gentleness:D

tsarleon, So Cal has a crapload of good NHB/MMA gyms that have turned out many pros. You will be able to learn a good deal of Muay Thai fundamentals from a GOOD nhb dojo. But, if you wanted to focus on MT, I will pm you some good places to check out

Thanks nik. That is the only one I have considered so far. It is $15 per class, but I don't know anything about them or about any other places in NYC. Is MT the best mixed martial arts type discipline they have around or should I research another type aswell?

If you train here, you will pay to train at a place with the "gracie" name attached to it. Not worth it in my opinion

Again, the Gracie name, get out your wallet.

The place you're talking about is $15 per class??? Thats a rip unless its private instruction for 3 hours. Shit, I'll train you for that much:D

The last NHB dojo I trained at was $65 a month and I went 6 days a week. You also had full access to their weights which was a pretty good set-up.

My Muay Thai dojo was $85 a month and like the other gave me full access to it from 1:00 pm to 9:00pm. I eventually got the keys and could train whenever I wanted with whomever I wanted:D That was nice.

If I come across any more info, I'll send it your way
good luck

Thaibox pm or post with Cali locations and what you know about them... Thanks man
Shit, I'm sorry bro. I forgot about you. I'm a prick...I'll pm you a list with some people to talk to by tomorrow

Thanks bro. I will research all these to find the best for me. You will be shocked at how expensive EVERYTHING in NYC is. That is the first thing I had to get used to when I moved here. I saw full contact stick fighting. Damn these guys are crazy. I will keep you informed on what is happening. My goal is to fight in toughman on FX. That is my favorite show, but I want to learn more than just boxing.

I'm in Williamsburg. I'll check out Gleasons gym. Thanks. Sorry I just caught the bottom part of your post about Thaiboxing-NYC. Was it worth the $15 per lesson? How many people are in the class. Do you have access to there gym?

yo thaibox so cal locations, haha. no worries man. any of them have morning training, i workout in the mornings, work swing shift. hook me up with some spots.

thanks
