I deadlifted yesterday!!!!!!!

Well, since my accident April 1st, in which I tore my ACL, medial and lateral meniscus, I havnt been able to do any compound lifts. Had two surgeries, one on April 12th, and then the ACL reconstruction on May 9th. I'll be 3 months out of surgery this friday, and then its only three months until I get my release. Yesterday was a milestone for me, I did deads with only 135, 3 sets of 10. The last time I did deads was on March 31st, and my last set was 365 for 5. The 135 felt strangely heavy for some reason. BUT I DID IT!!! With NO PAIN!!! I'll probably be able to squat again in November or December when my legs are the same strength and size. Right now, I do one legged squats, one legged extensions, curls, and leg press. My butt is coming back thank goodness!! I was really afraid I woudlnt be able to do deads are squat again, however now I'm starting out really slow, but thats ok, and I'm progressing. Thanks to all of you hear who listened to me whine and moan when I got hurt, and tell me to keep my hopes up. I'm almost there, almost there.

welcome back.

It sucks tha tyou were injured. But now is an opportunity to perfect your form as you will be using light weights for a few months.

Now you can really work through each rep..

In a way you are lucky.

Good job, empty wallet. A positive attitude certainly makes a come-back easier. I hope this is just the start of many future PR threads.

Come-back karma for you!

be careful

I concur. Don't let your enthusiasm and love for lifting cause you a big setback. That said, I can completely sympathise if it happens, because I've done it myself.

Great stuff though. Keep us updated.

awesome news. I find the hardest thing for me when coming back from an injury is getting over the feeling that as soon I start to pull, that I'm just going to hurt in again

Thats a problem for me. I have a confidence issue in that leg now. I'm going at an ok rate right now, when this gets done they told me my new ACL will be stronger than my old. Thats in a few months though. Lifting isnt actually bad for my graft, closed chained exercises that is. Open chained, such as extensions, I do with very little weight and high reps, and that puts shear force on your ACL. I can do all the closed chained I want though. This is what I do, three times a week:

One legged squats
One legged extensions
One legged leg press
One legged leg curls
One legged calve raises
Bike for 10 minutes

I do that three times a week. At first, I was like "Thats soooo over training!!!" However, I come to find out, I'm really just trying to get the strength back in my leg, not really trying to gain mass like normal one day a week lifting. And I'm not lifting heavy enough at all to cause any real need for several days of repair to the muscle. Its mostly strength through my CNS. I thought my leg would grow at the same rate as the rest of my body, slowly, however its coming back pretty darn fast, I think its cause my body is trying to get back to normal.
