Anyway I know what you are meaning by this whole thing.

These statements generally are made with "self improvement" in mind. Unfortunately people need to get over themselves before they can do a damn thing.

I have been at the point for a while now, that when people tell me they are going to do this or want to do that, I say "so, not to be an ass but....so." , "Telling me isn't going to help you, just do it and then i'll be impressed as hell!". Granted this is being said to peeps that I know are going to rollover as soon as they are out of my sight. Also, I have seen that this approach is quite effective, motivation-wise, because now they want to prove me wrong.

In a nutshell this is my experience with this situation.

That's pretty much how I handle it. I usually think it'd be much more impressive if you said nothing at all and just did it and let me notice for myself. I also remind people at times that they're running the risk of me not listening anymore since if they mention whatever they're talking about a couple more times, for my own sanity, I'll have to stop listening since experience has taught me that dude's plans are fictional.

That's complete and total horseshit. There's a difference between failing and never really trying at all though. If you're not going to do it, you're not going to fucking do it. Claiming you will makes other people (and you) start trying to plan for the change or whatever.

Saying "I'm going to lose weight" because you don't like the idea of being overweight and would like to make yourself feel better about it is only alright by me if you're actually going to make a concerted effort to do it. I wouldn't do that to myself personally since it's hard to get things done when you aren't being honest with yourself.

For once I have to agree with Nathan. If you're not going to do it, don't talk about it... I generally don't make threads where I state what I intend to do like some of the workout journals out there. Infact I would bet that most of them fail to meet any of the goals lined out in those journals.
