i broke my band setup today

while doing speed squats , the wood that I attached my bands can apart.
bands and wood flying everywhere, plates went flying off the bar.
total chaos.

i try, but theres very little tension at the top, and none at the bottom

I guess so! Damn...glad you didn't get hurt.

Gotta use 2 1/2" screws at various points so they don't come apart...maybe you got some bad wood?
