I think most environmentalists are just anti-hardwoods from dubious sources. IKEA gets all its wood from renewable sources, and it's pine afaik. Plus I'd imagine the resources needed to make steel/PVC/plastic frames for windows/furniture would be more...

I realize some of you don't look for reasons to hate the U.N., only plausible excuses, so i know rebuting this is pointless.

However, these are heads of state. You can't feed heads of state peanut butter & jelly sandwiches & kool aid. If the U.N. did that, you'd all be complaining about that then (the U.N. hoardes all its money and wont give dignitaries even slight luxuries. Something like that).

In the end, the World Summit on Sustainable Development is an arrangment where heads of state get together to discuss ways to improve the conditions of the worlds poor. Those of you who look for any excuse you can find to condemn a summit designed to help the dreadfully poor are just as bad as the overfed bureaucrats

The purpose of the summit at Johannesburg is to cut down on grinding poverty on a global scale. If conservatives couldn't use the hypocracy issue to devalue the summit, they would have found something else to use. Even though i will admit that i don't really 'care', i'd rather live in a world where people tried to help each other.

I can't justify eating lobster while people starve for lack of pennies a few feet away. All i can do is explain that the summit is designed to slow poverty.

And, i take offense to making me out to be the one who is callous about the poor. I am not the one looking for excuses to oppose an organization trying to help the poor.

Wrong. What the summit is designed to do is grandstand and draw attention to the fact that certain politicians want to be seen as aiding the poor, when in fact they are hypocrites.

Conservatives also have means of helping the poor, namely by promoting ecomomic growth. You simply disagree with that approach so you dismiss it.
