Yeah I understand it's not a good feeling to pass when someone's cooked for you. It makes me feel awkward too. I normally keep my cheat day for when I know I'm eating out. That way it gives you a little leeway to accept ..

Your fam 'should' def understand. I mean what if you were a vegan or allergic to gluten? I, personally, will take any opportunity to cheat, but if you are unwilling, just try to help them understand why you won't eat it.. They should respect that... I mean as hard as you work, they should def respect your commitment to your body! ;)

Hey gurl, I mostly agree with snipers. But I also know the impact that pissing off the inlaws can have. Do what you think is right for you in your situation. And realize that going off diet for a day is not gonna kill you too.
Best wishes to you in this, and a Happy Thanksgiving!
Relax and eat hardy!

It's an awkward situation for sure. Depending on who it is, you could call ahead and talk to them and just explain that you're doing a fitness program and would like to bring your own food or you just go and try to limit your choices and intake and make the best of it. I agree with Zed that one day, in the bigger picture, won't make a difference and sometimes good to take a diet break. You might go up a few lbs on the scale but it will even out in a few days and you'll be back on track.

Either way...enjoy!!

Happy Thanksgiving! :)

Yes ladies, u r all right...I notice that I'm already coming off a lil offensive because I said I would not like the fried foods..It's hard because my family be prepared for me when i come into town...after some thought I decided to eat some food today...just to keep the peace...n it won't hurt me...I train enough that one meal won't place me on the bad side. :-) Happy Thanksgiving Ladies!

I think it's better to keep the peace too. It's pretty rude to go to somebody's house and be super picky and not eat anything.
Besides, turkey or other meats, mashed potatoes, vegetables and a lil gravy- that's not bad at all really...
Happy Thanksgiving!

Yep, the more peace I keep the more the husband stays happy...a lil extra calories won't harm anything.

I follow Dave Palumbo's method of eating clean. You are allowed one cheat meal a week. Not a binge meal but a regular meal. He believes it keeps your receptors fresh. That said, I will eat what I like out of what is served. I make sure not to go crazy.
The funny thing is I enjoy a little but not a lot. I am at the point where I like clean and healthy food.
I guess my point is go for it within reason. You might actually hit your goals quicker if you are dieting.

Be nice and eat what you are served. Just reduce your serving sizes and run an extra mile the next day. Better to keep the peace.

Probably a moot point now, but could you offer to bring a couple side dishes (like the salad) so there is plenty of healthy food? Then you can put some of it all on your plate and just keep working on the stuff you want.

It also might help to pregame on some clean eating so whatever you do have will be a small portion. It's hard to argue with "Everything was delicious! I'm too full!"

Hey, I ate what they had at my portion...didn't bother to think too much about it...because I knew I was going to run in lift in the morning...didn't gain a bit n I didn't get the fat full feeling...n most of all the husband was relax because i was relaxed...lol:-)
