Huge Rant: Know-it-all "dieters"

Ok, where I work this is this woman there who is quite overweight. A little over two weeks ago, she started taking Phentermine and now she eats close to nothing at all in a day. She was telling me and a couple other people at work how she usually has 3 saltines for breakfast, then a tomato for lunch and a cucumber for dinner. (or something insanely small like that) After like 17 days, she has lost about 33 pounds. So, yesterday, we had bagels in our department for a birthday celebration, and she comes down and starts telling us how we shouldnt' be eating that crap and how it's all so bad for you. Mind you, she is the one who used to order out for lunch like every day and drink like 5 sodas throughout her work-day alone. I just get so frustrated because now that she has started to lose weight, she thinks that she is a complete know-it-all about everything. I would love to have said "how dare you criticize what I am eating," but to be honest, she kinda scrares me, so I just bit my tongue. I don't understand why she thinks that she can tell others how poorly they are eating, when all she is doing to lose weight is take a couple pills. She has no clue whatsoever about dieting, working out, or really working hard to reach your goals. In my opinion, she's one of many many other people in this world who think that pills are a cure-all for their many years of laziness and fast-food friendly lifestyles. I know that I am no expert to all of this stuff, and that I am still learning, but I would love to just give her a piece of my mind. If only she didn't scare me!! Thanks for anyone who took the time to read this - just had to get it off my chest...
 
he he he...that's exactly what I am thinking!! I'm sure her mouth won't be quite so quick to blurt out comments then, now will it??
 
Starvation diets with diet pills are great for trying to lose lean mass. But the general population doesn't get that. I've had people who were very out of shape scold me for eating so much fat because it'll make me "fat". I'm not sure they're open minded enough to understand that I literally ingest oil to up my healthy fat intakes.

If you think about it though, women's magazines and diet books tend to be filled with misinformation so it's no wonder so many women are lost when it comes to what to eat. And one thing that's VERY important is eating enough. Eating clean is quite contrary to the dietary beliefs of the average person.
 
I would confront her alone... and gently explain how you feel.
Sometimes, people have a tendancy to get a little overzelous in there own persuit and project that on to others.

you aint going to believe the rebound when she gets off that stuff - my friend one time told me the diet HE was doing:

7:00am - apple juice
9:00am - some nuts
11:00am - greet tea

......

i was like "dude - do not continue - I woudl be in jail by noon as I would have killed someone by now"..

he lost weight - no doubt, but can never keep it off, so he has to repeat that messed up diet every 6 month.
 
Raina, I agree with you totally. I also think that there is a lot of misinformation out there, and that only adds to people's theories and wrongful ways. However, it doesn't give anyone a right to be a know it all when they clearly are not.

CrystalChick...thanks for the advice. However, this person isn't someone who is easy to confront, so I am staying completely out of it. I will let her think what she wants because no matter what I say or anyone else says for that matter...she will think that her way is right and the best...oh well...
 
For people like that (the big mouth know-it-alls), I just smile sweetly. Give her time - that'll reveal how much of an "expert" she is. Can we say R-E-B-O-U-N-D...:rolleyes:
 
As IRRITATING as it is (and boy is it ever!) just ignore it becasue you know that in 6 months she's going to have lost a TON of weight...and GAINED it all right back. :)
 
Only other woman in my sales is bugging me cause I am always eating... I just grin and bare it. At first I tried to explain about eating smalls amounts all day will actually help you lose weight and she just stared at me blankly. So now I say nothing just I know that in about 6 months when the change in my body is more dramatic to others she will not be saying much at all.
