HST after back to back madcow 5X5's?

big perm

I'm looking for a little advice.....I'm about to complete my 3rd advanced 5X5 run in a week and am giddy about my results to date. To change things up a bit I plan on running one or maybe two hst cycles.

My question....after three consecutive 5X5's, I feel as if I can tolerate a substantial amount of load....moreso than the HST program seems to suggest. Especially during the 15's where I may run just one set per exercise and the 10's where I'll run two sets per exercise. Is there something I should be looking at doing to "up" the load a little or does it not matter that the load will be lessened during the HST run? I could up the 15's to two or three sets, but that doesn't seem the norm, and I know I'm not abnormal (I hope at least).

So....if anyone has any experience with going from a 5X5 to a HST type program...would you care to help out a little?

about to start the exact same thing as you. The break from doing 3x3 of very heavy weights will come as a welcome change to your muscles I am sure. Sets wise I'd stick with 1x15. there are a lot of variations after this but I'm going with 2x10 & 3x5,maybe 4x5 depending on how I feel by then

Uh...the HST "program" doesn't exist. It's a set of principles. The sample they give you is just one of the many ways you can follow it. Just use more sets than what they recommend.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking of doing myself. The main concern I had was that if I did do 1 set during the 15's and 2 during the 10's would that be enough of a load to be effective after coming off consecutive 5X5's where the load was much greater.

Thanks for the response bro (k)...hopefully more will chime in with their thoughts as well.

I think it depends on what weight you are using. I am in my second week of 10's and doing two sets. The load seems heavy to me because after doing 5x5 anything over 5 seems like a lot. Also I am doing an AM/PM split 3 days a week. You will probably think the 15's are a waste of time but I enjoyed them especially after the heavy loads of the 5x5.
