Hpv

Just found out a friend of mine has hpv. She actually just found out yesterday----shes 35. Shes going for more tests to see which kind it is. Supposedly there is over 100 strains. Its considered an STD and is related in a way to genital warts. The crazy thing is we almost had sex not to long ago.
Hearing shit like this makes me want to be monogamous(SP?) Or not sleep with anyone. Its crazy how much shit is out there. Even if you wear a condom you can get so many stds - herpes, hpv, crabs etc

hpv can be dormant for years and she'd never know.

it can lead to cervical cancer which is sucky. a friend of mine's coworker died of it last year and she was only in her mid 30's :bawling: it was in the 4th stage so they couldn't do much for her. the worst part is there hasn't been any significant improvement in prolonging life for people with stage 4 cancer in the past 30 years , so early detection is key. hope she turns out ok.

Perhaps you should educate yourself a bit before making dumb remarks. "About half to three-fourths of the people who have ever had sex will have HPV at some time in their life. "
What dumb remarks did I make? I was just suprised by it. Actually from what I read it said 80 -90% of people have/had it.

No, she gets a special cologne... It's called Sex Panther by Odeon. It's illegal in nine countries... Yep, it's made with bits of real panther, so you know it's good. They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time, it works every time.

i pretty much assume that everyone has this, if you have been moderately sexually active, odds are that you do.

Wow I guess its not that big of a deal then. From What I read it seems like it can be serious but usually people dont know they have it - most dont have symptoms

You make it out as though she is some worthless slut by you describing her simply because she has HPV. As Lestat mentioned, the majority of the population has a strain of this and I would bet you do too if you've had sex with more than 1 person.

Now some of the other STD's you described are likely to be because of slutty behavior, but I certainly wouldn't classify HPV in that category.

(and sorry I said dumb. "unwarranted" would have been nicer wording on my behalf)

HPV comes in so many different strands that they assume that number. men are asymtomatic anyways unless it's a wart strand. It can't cause cervical cancer in men but it can in women, hence why it is so brought out as a scare!

Sorry to hear that. :( I just recently got vaccinated for HPV. There's a new vaccine out for women between the ages of 13-29 (ish) that prevents that. Doesn't stop all STD's obviously, but it also helps prevent cervical cancer. Not a fun shot but better than what could possibly happen down the road.

Routine PAP and/or DNA test?

ps. I think you're getting ragged on for what I bolded.

Here's something you should be worried about - there are people that are carriers for herpes but do not have any visible symptoms/breakouts ever.

herpes isn't contagious unless you come in contact during an outbreak although females can breakout and not be aware

From the CDC website;http://www.cdc.gov/std/HPV/STDFact-HPV.htm
HPV
"Approximately 20 million people are currently infected with HPV. At least 50 percent of sexually active men and women acquire genital HPV infection at some point in their lives. By age 50, at least 80 percent of women will have acquired genital HPV infection. About 6.2 million Americans get a new genital HPV infection each year."

Herpes:
"Results of a nationally representative study show that genital herpes infection is common in the United States. Nationwide, at least 45 million people ages 12 and older, or one out of five adolescents and adults, have had genital HSV infection. Between the late 1970s and the early 1990s, the number of Americans with genital herpes infection increased 30 percent.

Genital HSV-2 infection is more common in women (approximately one out of four women) than in men (almost one out of five). This may be due to male-to-female transmissions being more likely than female-to-male transmission. "

HPV is also spread by petting, fingering, masturbation. Many people are infected without ever having had intercourse. There is no stigma whatsoever except that infection rate does increase with number of sexual partners........duh! For this disease it is not just everyone you have slept with but everyone you have shaken hands with! (and then touched your genitals!)

Er sorry - I missed the word "visible" (D'Oh - that would be helpful right  to have that in there)...sigh

My bad if I came off that way. I definitely did not want to come across that way. She is no slut, and is a really good person.
I just reread my post and I could see how you thought I was coming off that way. I should've reworded it better.
My point was here is a good person that dosent sleep around and has this. I just didnt know too much about hpv. But since reading your responses and doing more research myself, its not that big of a deal. Hopefully she dosent have the cancerous type.

No problem.

Sorry that I said "dumb remarks".

I've just been grumpy lately because Velvett is not single. :(

Agreed. There are many diseases out there that can lie dormant for many years before giving even the slightest of hints of it being a disease. Many people do not know this, or just plain dont care. And that is how things get carried around. Honestly I don't know where half of the population was during sex ed classes!!
