Howcome when people sing you can't hear their accent?

ive always wondered that

Because you are usually singing a melody, which basically trumps the accent.

More specifically when singing you sound out vowels differently, to project. The mouth shapes when singing are fairly consistent, but when speaking they are specific to particular regions.

For the longest time I did not know that Nicole kidman had an accent she always seemed to speak clear enough english.
