I have a pretty wide stance with my toes flared out. It might be because I have flat feet and am almost 6'1" but when I have a narrow stance I just can't squat properly, I'll lean too far over and just won't have any stability.
I'm 6'1 as well and have to use a wider stance (more than shoulder width and toes somewhat pointed outwards).I also use a *gasp* board under my heels. This way I can stay upright in my front squats and hit my quads.
I need to work on my hamstring and hip flexor flexibility. Isn't the same it used to be many years ago.

You really shouldn't elevate your heels man, this imposes serious stress on your knees. A general rule of thumb is that if you drew an imaginary line up from your toes, your knees should not go past that line.
