How to format a hard drive

I need to format a hard drive with win98 OS.

i've already ran fdisk and i'm at the A prompt but i don't know what to do from there.

I thought Format c: was the command but it isn't

help :(

type dir /p to make sure that the format command is on the floppy assuming it's a win98 boot disk

EDIT: It's been a while since win98 but since fdisk is on there, I'd assum format was also. You should be able to type in c: to go to your c drive. Then type format c:...I think :verygood:

yep , i'm a dumbass

for some reason i thought i could use the win98 cd instread of a floppy to format the drive. didn't think about not having any drivers for the cd rom.

anyway around this ? how can a make a startup disk ?

It's been a while since I used windows 98 but I'm pretty sure you can format a hard drive with the windows 98 disc. I know you can with the windows xp disc. Set your computer to boot from the CD-Rom first in the bios. It should ask you if you want to install when you boot off the CD and ask do you want to update or do a fresh install. If you do a fresh install your hard drive will have to be format first. Mind you it will be FAT32 and not NTFS with is the better of an HD being format today.

quickest and easiest way....

open up the computer, remove the hard drive. take a very strong magnet, like one off of the back of a speaker, not one of those pansy ass refrigerator magnets, and run it all over the hard drive for about 10 minutes.
