How strict is your form

When you are in the gym how strict is your form?

Do you ever allow your form to break on purpose? If so, on what exercises?

I am one of those who will use very scrict form in my movements. I will occasionally do cheat curls, but everything else is done in good form. I am more concerned with form over weight.

BTW. I'm not talking about those people you see in the gym rocking their whole body to do curls, or leaning to the floor to do pull downs, etc.. :D

I'm the same. I never cheat though. Maybe when I used to lift for strength I would a little, but not now. Defeats my purpose.

I always wonder what people mean by correct form. I thought I knew what correct form was until I watched Dorian Yates' blood n' guts. that mofo is strict. as for me, i like to swing on certain things. i think one exercise that lends itself well to swinging is laterals. i always see people doing super strict laterals with really light weight, but i've never gotten anything from that. although on some exercises good form is a prerequisite for injury prevention.

Sometimes on heavy barbell shrugs I kind of use my whoole body to get the weight up, more like a power shrug. Otherwise, I try to keep strict form on everything.

as strict as I can get it....I was thinking of shooting a squat video today, if I do you guys can see if I'm strict or not

There is a time and place for " Cheat sets " It can be an effective training method if used correctly. That being said, beginners have no business doing these. A guy like Dorian Yates could cheat doing 225 barbell curls and still hit his bis sufficiently.

I do everything as strict as possible. I also try to do everything slow and in control. My poundage may suffer, but I'm not in there to impress anyone. I may cheat a little on bent over barbell rows, but that's all I can think of.

I keep my form extrememly strick on isolatoin movements, but on compound movements its a bit looser that some bodybuilder's use, although not as loose as guys like Ronnie Coleman or Flex Wheeler use.

The only exercises would be military presses (rarely), chin-ups (semi-often, my lower body will start to shift forward, putting me on an angle and stressing the abs...it's almost gone now though), and heel raises. I just dropped the weight on the HRs though so I can use better form.

Most of the time really strict, I will have breaks in form on my powercleans and puush press but overall I try to be very strict to eliminate injuries

It varies for me. I wouldnt consider myself real strict on any one exercise. Though I will often do some sets slow and strict and at different rep speeds to switch it up. For example, when I do barbell curls I may throw the weight up somewhat, and resist the negative. I like to train heavy, but I always make sure I anihilate the muscle I am training. So that is not sacrificed. Heavy weights keep me motivated and strong all around. On my bench presses, form tends to be pretty strict, just cuz Ive never taught myself to cheat or arch on that exercise. Something like deadlifts, Im not sure how you could cheat the movement, but you can surely use sloppy form which can lead to injury very easily. Im always switching it up though. For beginners Id reccomend strict form, this worked best for me in the beginning.

Why would you swing a weight up? You get so little out of it compared to a strict controlled motion. Use your muscle to do the lateral not momentum.

Same here, my goal is not to lift huge amounts of weights though.
