I heard I should be adding like 5lbs a week to gain size is that true? I thought I should use the same weight 2 or 3 times then add on like 10lbs but I dont know so thats why I'm asking.

My thing is I just try to improve everytime I go into the gym. Be it more weight or more reps I want to do at least a little more each time. If your improving growth is coming

i like to try and go up everytime for every lift but after awhile i'll hit a plateau and have to switch it up a bit. You'll have shitty days once and awhile where maybe the week before you could get 10 pounds more on the bench. Whatever works for you i guess

Don't increase too fast or you will burn out. I think that it's much better to have a realistic plan and stick to it and then achieve it and then create another realistic plan and achieve that and over the long term you will be constantly moving in the right direction and not zig-zaging up and down.
If everyone here put on 5lb on their 250lb bench EVERY OTHER week for a year then they'd be doing 375lb! It will not happen (unless in rare highly drug assited situations).

I like to advance slowly like this (purely example poundages):

SQUAT PROGRESSION:

week 1:

3 sets x 5 reps @ 250lbs

week 2:

3 sets x 6 reps @ 250lbs

week 3:

3 x 7 @ 250

weeks 4:

3 x 8 @ 250

week 5:

3 x 5 @ 270

week 6:

3 x 6 @ 270

week 7:

3 x 7 @ 270

week 8:

3 x 8 @ 270

week 9:

3 x 5 @ 290, etc....

This slow but sure progression will work if started with a weight that is easy., ie 250 x 5 is done when you are capable of doing 3 x 7 x 250 for example.

Basically I always try to increase the weight or reps used on most exercises and very often. Especially on the main compound lifts. Whenever I can I try to use more weight or reps. I believe progressive resistance is the best way to growth/strength. And I always push my sets to failure with high volume.
