Md. police officer attacked with feces

SALISBURY, Md. -- A woman was beaten and arrested after she smeared her feces on an officer who tried to question her for trespassing, police said Wednesday.

Tammy E. Johnson, 36, of Newark, Md., was charged with second-degree assault and reckless endangerment for exposing the officer to a potential biohazard, resisting arrest, disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct, said Capt. Mark Tyler, Salisbury police spokesman.

Tyler said the incident began about 4 p.m. Saturday when officers were called to the 400 block of Cypress St. to confront a woman who was trespassing. The officer approached Johnson and asked her for identification.

"She continued to walk away, advising the officer that she had defecated on herself," Tyler said. When the officer again asked for identification, the woman allegedly attacked him with excrement.

Tyler said the officer chased Johnson and attempted to subdue her.

"She resisted arrest, continued to smear the fecal matter on him and gouged and scratched him in the upper chest and neck," he said. "The officer did use his pepper spray on the woman, which had no effect as she continued to fight. He then used his baton in the area of her legs until she finally stopped."

At the end of the struggle, the officer and Johnson were covered with excrement, Tyler said. They were taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

"He could have contracted HIV or some other type of biohazard because of the open wounds, so he was tested for transmitted diseases," Tyler said of the officer. Johnson was treated for minor injuries and released into police custody.

If the woman knowingly has HIV or Hepatitis C, she could face attempted murder charges, according to the Wicomico County State's Attorney's Office.

Salisbury City Councilwoman Lavonzella Siggers, who represents the city's West Side, is asking witnesses to come forward. She said she has heard accounts of the incident that differ from the police report.

Johnson was being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center on Naylor Mill Road.

yeah, i guess they can't say poop. doesn't matter to me what they call it, if i was that cop, i would've beaten even more shit out of her for something like that.

There seems to be something missing in that story, perhaps this woman was very drugged at the time. But something doesn't sound right here.

Why does a person have to be drugged to do something like this? Sounds to me like she fell OFF her meds.

For every story on unnecessary police brutality, there's another story where there should of been some.
